I was looking over my eBay feedback today & noticed how long I've been a member:

Jul 30, 1998

I set up my account on a WebTV unit & started bidding on eBay for Mark McGwire baseball cards. It was the summer of '98 (70 HR) after all. :)

I was curious if others on this board have been ebaying it even longer.

Also, does anyone know when eBay was "established"?

I sold a Dark Tower board game under a friends account in '97 but I didn't get my own account until '99. I think ebay started in '95 or '96 as a Pez auction site.

I only started about a month ago, when I got a computer in my room, along with a broadband internet connection.

I've been on eBay since early '98 although I never won a single auction for several months. back then I didn't have much of a job and had to keep the restraint on bidding amount. Today I still do but for a different reason: too many noobs driving up the auction to insane amount and usually "rare" items will pop up in a week or so. ;)

I've b registered since June 25th 1997 but I have been visiting the site for a year before that. I was a little apprehensive about giving personal information to an internet site back then. Hell, I still am.

Doesn't seem like 5 years really. Alot of people knock ebay, and there is just cause most of the time..but still...it to me is a great thing. I would have never found alot of items I wanted any other way.

Hmm, I've been a member since Jul 30, 1997.

Almost exactly one month since I moved to IL, and I was probably browsing at work. What a great job that was...

The first thing I bought on eBay was a soundcard for my computer (the PC I had built and was using for the bid didn't have one).

Let's see...

First Account was early 1998. My dad wanted a copy of the John Wayne movie "The High & The Mighty" and Ebay was the only place it could be found. The first thing I got off of Ebay was a promotional poster for Donkey Kong Jr. coin op. My mom got a copy of Boxxle 2 for the Gameboy (BTW, that's a confirmed very-rare game, make no mistake). We were happy. Then I quit playing Magic: The Gathering because they were bringing out too many sets too quickly and they were fucking up the rules of the game, so I auctioned off a ton of my cards. Some cocksucker won almost 100 auctions of mine for some really expensive cards, racking up a few thousand dollars owed to me. He never paid, yet he told Ebay he did and Ebay refused to (A) remove all 100 negative feedbacks this scum fucker (who already had several negative-feedbacks himself) left against me and (2) refused to let up on their cut of the money from the auctions. I never paid the bill, and the account was closed.

I just returned to Ebay so I could get my mum a copy of Lolo for the Gameboy, and it wasn't even a full year before some ass clown tried to screw me again. At least I'm not stupid enough to put up any auctions. That's opening up a can of works and for guys like Sylentwulf who have hundreds of auctions going at the same time, let me just say I feel for you... I really do.
