I figured a guy with the name of MarioMania would know all about it. Kidding, of course.

Seriously, though, the only info I have is from some EGM preview around 1993-1994. They once suggested that the NES was going to get a watered down port of Super Mario World (Super NES version) as a last hurrah before Nintendo kicked the system to the curb. I was excited to get it, since I was following NES releases right up to the bitter end.

It never did come out that I know of, at least not in the US. I can't remember if that issue of EGM had a screenshot or not, I thought they posted one. What I do recall is that it was basically a 2-3 sentence blurb on the game in the Upcoming Release/Preview section or the International section. That is about it.

Either that, or the Hong Kong version of SMW for the Famicom (http://www.bripro.com/low/obscure/index.php?page=hko_smw).........

I also have a game called Super Mario World 9 for NES, but it's a hack of one of the Adventure Island games.

Yeah you're probably talking about the pirate famicart. I want it :-( It only has like 12 levels if I remember correctly.
I've tried playing it in emulators a number of times over the years and never even been able to get past the first stage of Donut Plains. Though I guess I've never really set myself to the task by using save states and all that. The game is damn hard, though. It's graphically and conceptually impressive, especially for a pirate game, but they sort of screwed up the jumping physics which makes the game way harder than it should be. I'd still love to get it on a cart, though, of course.

Super Mario World pirate for the NES is an amazingly well done pirate. The last level is the castle after the big bridge though, so it's pretty short.

If there's one with the rest of the game in it, I haven't heard about it. Would kick ass, though.

Wasn't the rest of the game accessible via some sort of cheat code?
