View Full Version : How long does it usually take to ship things to Canada from the US?

In late Feb, I shipped user tmlfan three PSX games. He lives in Ontario and they were shipped airmail from Chicago. I would have assumed he should have them by now, but he's telling me via PM that they still haven't arrived. Is it possible they are being delayed due to customs or something? Or, am I getting scammed? I don't want to assume he's trying to "pull one over" on me. The problem is that the package wasn't trackable because it was an international shipment. I think this is the last time I ship out of the US.

Any advice?

Honestly, I've had packages to Canada from the US (standard Airmail) take up to 21-28 days before. I have no idea why, but it happens.

It should be trackable, just not for you.(Or anyone else) You keep your receipt from mailing them? If so go to the P.O. from where you sent them and have them Match the number on the receipt to the Custom's form that you HAD to fill out. They may have a way to track it on the other end.

It usually only takes a week when I ship/receive stuff from Canada. But I also live in Maine so we're quite close allready.

I don't know if I still have the receipt. I guess its time I start hunting for it. Does anyone else have experience with this situation? I want to make sure the games aren't lost--and that he gets his stuff and that I don't get ripped!:yipes:

Anytime I've sent something or received something from Canada it usually was only 10 days (give or take)

The most recent stuff I have sold to someone in canada has taken about 2 weeks or so. That was through the usps.

One time I bought a SNES game from someone in Canada and it took over a month to get it....

I don't ship to the States very often, but I get a few packages every week coming from the States.
The thing is, packages usually take about a week to get to my door when shipped from the States, however, some get held up (probably at the border) for some reason.
I've been waiting about a month and a half for a package from a 100% reputable seller, it just takes a while sometimes.
Over my 2 and a half years of collecting, I can't imagine how many packages I've received from the States, and I'd estimate that 4 of them took longer than too weeks. It happens, but it doesn't happen all the time.

For the record, I know tmlfan personally and I can say that he is absolutely trustworthy.

Ok, thanks for the advice. I think enough people know me here too and can vouch that I'm trustworthy as well. I guess we'll both just have to sit and wait for it to arrive. After all, its probably not even been 3 weeks just yet. As they say, patience is a virtue that many of us don't have at all---including me.

The longest I've waited for something from the states was 3 months. It got lost and then kept in customs. I normally don't start to worry until at least a month has past. IMO tmlfan is over reacting but probably not trying to scam you.

I asked my post office when this happened to me, with a lost package I sent in a bubble mailer via Global Airmail to Canada. They said they could do nothing unless I used Express Mail or Parcel Post.

(Ironically, the package never left the country; it was shipped back to me.)

Well, if someone else can tell tmlfan to not worry, I would appreciate it. I'm sure its going arrive...sooner or later. I just want to avoid any possible issues.

I sent some SNES games to a dude in Canada a while back and I am still waiting for them to get there. I should check on it though. I am glad to hear I am not the only one with the problem.

Very seldom have I had anything going to Canada take longer than 10 days. Guess I've been comparatively lucky. However, the last thing I sent to Canada did take almost exactly 2 weeks...

In general, it seems to take far less time for someone in Canada or the US to ship to the UK than it does to ship between themselves. Go figure!

I've received packages from Japan faster than from Canada. No exaggeration.

Most of my packages to Canada have taken 1-2 weeks to reach their destination using plain ol' airmail. But it seems to be a BIG YMMV, just from people in this small thread!

This has frustrated some people to the point that they refuse to do international shipping, but I decided to suck it up and realize that you can't get everything you want in the lower 48... hell, sometimes you can't get what you want in the same hemisphere!

That said, all of my international trades have gone swimmingly, except for some lone asshat from Quebec on GameTZ.

2 weeks or so

It's VERY random. Sometimes I'll get a package in less than a week from the US...sometimes 2+ weeks. Mostly due to customs and border problems usually...or if customs decides to search your package it takes longer to process. It's kind of a pain in the ass. Same goes for shipping the other way. I've had packages get from Ontario to Cali in less than a week and had them take almost a month too.

I'll vouch for tmlfan as well, he's entirely trustworthy. Maybe he's over reacting, it's taken anywhere from 1 week to 2 months for me to get parcels from across Canada before. Canada Customs can really come down hard on parcels at times that come from the US and then they'll hold them seemingly forever before letting them go.

I've had variable success. Like a week ago, I got a package from Portland. It took 3 days to get here. A few years ago, I had something take 3-4 weeks. It was held up at customs, and they made me pay a $10 fee (for a $10 item :P). It seems odd to me how they pick and chose which things to pay a customs charge for.

Four weeks is getting awfully late though.

I just realized, I got a game from a Canadian seller in less than four days. And I'm in freakin' Southern California.

Weird.

Wow

For the Record people I am not over-reacting. I sent a simple message to agbulls and mentioned its been 3 weeks or so since he said he shipped the 3 games (as he mentioned in the last message he sent that it will take 4-7 days), So I sent a message to get an update, thats all.

here is the exchange

Just a harmless hey, anything new on your end, I have been buying and selling stuff for 10 years now, I understand about cross border transactions etc. I wont post the response I got back from my question, but it wasn't appreciated in the manner it was posed to me.

regardless, I am not the one over-reacting, sending an accusatory message and posting a whole thread about it.

I have never ripped anyone off through buying and selling here, on cgcc or ebay, so I dont think there are any worries, if i had gotten the games I would have said thanks for the games instead.

anyways, I agree its to early to start threads like this, I asked a simple question to keep the communication lines open, as a big sign of getting taken is that a seller stops responding to your questions.

thats all
