I thought it was kind of a cool find, but wanted to get some other opinions.

I bought a sealed copy of Halo 2 and the Halo 2 Collectors Edition for 28 each.

They each still have an orange seal on the top of the case (inside the shrinkwrap) that says "do not sell before 11/09/04."

not sure if this is a cool find, but i thought it was kind of fun to pick up at least. any comments appreciated!

I wouldn't call these rare by any means--but if they're cool to you then ya :) If you want to have an idea of what it may be worth in the future--compare it to a sealed copy of SMB 3 which is worth around $30. In other words, you'll probably not lose anything if you plan on never opening it.

I believe that the collectors edition is worth something, but the other one is pretty much a copy of Halo 2 and nothing more.

The only problem is that there were like 3 million plus of each one. If you never had it and wanted it to play I say ok deal. If you bought them thinking they would be worth something one day. Not a good deal.

Tell that to the people buying sealed copies of FFVII on ebay.

yeah, there are a ton of copies of these games out there. however i don't know that i've ever seen ones that are the from the original first run with the do not sell until 11/09/04 and are still sealed.

i guess at the very least it seems cool to me to have first runs :)

Point me to the $30 SMB3's and I will buy them in a heartbeat. SMB 3 sealed is worth around $125

Worth $125 to us or the insane people with deep pockets on eBay? I can't see anyone I know or have run into comming close to spending that much on a sealed, a few would struggle paying $25!

I've seen the Halo games going for under $10 at some places but it's still $20 at GS and EB becaues they are popular. I'm sure 10 years from now there may be a slight demand for it and then 20+ years from now it'll be either almost forgotten or worth a few bucks more. Of course that's my opinion, someone who's been doing the collecting aspect for a few decades would have a far better estimate.

Good point there, I had a tough time shelling out $75 for mine, but in the back of my head I know that if push comes to shove, I will clear that in resale. Anyhow, the current prices made by buyers is what sets the value on an item, not the opinions of the collecting community.

In this case, if Halo is a game that defined a year or a genre such as Mario 3 did in for platformers in 1989, then those purchases will be solid investments. If not, then the fact that they are dated will help at least make up for the price paid.

My opinion is that a person is going to have better luck with Pokemon Red/Blue/Yellow in the next 15 years than just about any other title out there.
