Remember when you guys used to do that cool mystery sound thing where the winner would get some cool rare prize? Why'd you stop doing that?

Yay! We have a new voluteer to run it! Folks, start PMing Robotnick with your answers to the current Mystery Game!

ROFL

Seriously, I have run it off-and-on for years and...
1. After an initial burst of interest after each relaunch, no one really bothers to play except for the same handful of folks.
2. No one bothers to play if they feel the prize "isn't worth it." (I've gotten e-mails telling me they'd enter this month, but the prize kinda sucks. Pretty disheartening.)
3. After doing this monthly/bi-monthly for so long, there really isn't a topical game I haven't used a sound from.

Anyway, we're looking for someone to take it over from this point on, if anyone's interested. You will be expected to supply the sound and (occassionally) the prize itself. You will also need to update the contest monthly, accumulate all entries, and select a correct answer randomly from the correct entries. Anyone interested in taking over the contest should PM me and I'll get you set up. One year committment if you volunteer.

I'll comment here to keep this near the top and to save you the room in your PM inbox.

I don't mind supplying the occasional prize, though I'd rather not have to come up with the sound. Are you ok with a potential volunteer who would only handle the prize end of things? If so, I might be willing to help and I could ship the prize from my own address to that of the winner.

I have 55 feedback comments in my signature, 53 of which are positive (the other 2 are neutrals), so I'd be good for holding up my end of things. I'm just curious as to what the typical prizes were, before I get in too deep.

I would *think* that any game-related prize would be fine since it's really a contest just for fun. Bangtango if you will supply the prize, I will do the sound. Any 3rd party out there want to weed out the entries and declare a winner? (provided all this is cool w/ Joe, I don't see why it wouldn't be)

Sure, I have a few ideas for a prize. So I guess I am in on prize patrol. I'll let either you or Sniderman know what it might be tomorrow or Tuesday in a PM.

Better get the van, balloons, and the giant oversized check ready.

It's cool with me. I'd love to see it come back! I'd be happy to chip in on the prizes, too. I have loads of good-but-not-great stuff to give away. As long as someone else is staying on top of the administrative end of it.

Note that whoever does this has to maintain the HTML page as well. It's not a BIG deal, you make some changes and send me the file every month... but I wanted to be sure that was clear before anyone takes this on.

OK...I can do that part and do the sound, bangtango already has prizes lined up, but it would be nice to have a third partner on this to sort out the entries through email and declare a winner. Any volunteers?

I'm sure I can come up with a more maintenance free way of doing this.

My guess is Donkey Kong. Do I win?

Close. It was Donkey Kong 3. That flushing sound you heard wasn't in the game but it was the sound of Nintendo getting rid of Stanley before he inadvertantly ended up in another DK game. He got stuck a couple of times so they had to do a double flush.

I wouldn't mind handling PMs.
