Does anyone know if the US 32X can be made to play PAL releases? Are 32X carts in PAL format or is it the console itself ala CV and Jaguar? Or is it just a cart shape lockout thing like Nintendo uses?

Some PAL games will play on an American 32x, some won't. It really depends on the game. The carts are the same size, I do believe.

I managed to play FIFA Soccer (which only came out in Europe) just fine on my American 32x full-screen in full-color... It appeared to run perfectly with no speed-up, slow-down, or borders. The same for Romance of the 3 Kingdoms 4 (the sole Japanese-only release.)

Unfortunately, the only European game that I REALLY want to play is the only other Europe-specific game, DarXide. Unfortunately, it gives you a clear error message when plugged into an American console, and it simply won't play it. It won't work with a UK 32x plugged into an American Genesis, or an American 32x plugged into a Mega Drive... you must have a complete European combo to get the game to run, and then it won't run on American TV's in color. Drats! I had to run the damn thing through a VCR just to make the screen stop rolling. I'm not buying a PAL TV just to play one damn game... I don't care how good it's supposed t be.

Like I said, it jst depends on the game...
