does the Viewmaster viewer you found look like this?

http://members.aol.com/djadamson/20th3d/vmc.jpg

If so that's the Model C View-Master, made from 1946-1956. It's made of black bakelite and is a very durable viewer. See if it says Sawyers anywhere on it. That's a nice find.

Viewmaster has been around since 1938. Sawyers was the original company that made the viewers and reels. The company has changed hands many times. GAF, Tonka, etc. Fisher Price produces them now.

Nowadays the reels are all children's subject matter with a few science reels thrown in. Most notably the Discovery Channel series. In the early days they also had several reels based on sports, countries, tourist attractions, history. There's also a lot that were produced by companies to promote there products, services or fascilities. Neat stuff.

Look it up on ebay, the stuff's pretty pricey too.

Yep its a Sawyers one same as in that pic.

Not that pricey though I checked it out on ebay and it doesnt seem to be insanely valuable or anything.

But what the hell I think it cost me 4 bucks or something like that.

I might even try to find some reels for it the one it came with is kinda messed up and doesnt turn right.

For 45 years old Im surprised a piece of carboard lasted that long anyway.

Jesus imagine NES boxes 25 years from now....

@ port , Yeah not a bad day. Im gonna ebay the backup cart, megaman5 and Warsong and figure Illl actually come out ahead as well as have new stuff for my collection and to play with. Thats the best way to justify it anyway is to show a profit.

Not to complain or anything but when the hell am I gonna find a boxed Vectrex for 5 bux or Adventurevision or something? I mean scoring a complete Chrono Trigger for 5 bux type finds are cool but I figure after a few years Id have ONE shit my pants game find story... Plus I wanna play vectrex @_@ Prototypes too just never ran across a prototype either.

Dear GOD I dig through enough peoples worthless shit cant ya throw me a Micky Mantle card for a quarter or SOMETHING?!

All I got are these stupid upside down airplane stamps...
