VGA boxes?

I was thinking of purchasing a VGA box for $50. Does it really make that much of a difference? I was going to hook up my systems through it, since my computer monitor is larger than my TV, and I hear it gives arcade quality on a lot of arcade games. Anyone have experience on these?

Well, if you want "arcade quality" a VGA box is what you *don't* want. What kind of VGA box are you looking at? If it's a generic "plug the composite jacks in here and the VGA in there" kind of deal it probably isn't very good, especially at that price. However, the Dreamcast boxes are awesome and a few of the Xbox boxes are good.

I too am interested in a "good" on for Xbox. Until they make the 360 fully compatable, I want one for my xbox.

I would bet if you hooked that thing and say, a Playstation, to a monitor the screen would look worse than it would on a regular TV.

I don't think the quality would be so hot, since it looks like you're only taking standard imputs and converting it into a vga signal.

I'm not sure if that is the one, but I'm on vacation, and a game store I used to work at has one. So, they do not provide better quality?

There's no way at that price point it is going to upconvert the resolution. The picture will look blocky as hell, even with a 360.

Can't you just buy it from that store and return it if it doesn't work well?

Yeah, he hooked his DC to a monitor. I can't get in touch with him to determine which one he is using :/

Thing is, the store is in Texas, while I live in Alabama. The next chance I get to go to the store is Friday, and I leave Saturday.

The one I want is not the universal kind. The one I have for the DC is awsome and I know that they have one specifically for the xbox. I have used these kinds and they rock. I bought one of the universal piece of crap ones and they suck

Xbox 360 VGA cable
Gamecube modified D-terminal/component cables (works with Pro-Scan games only)

Those are the three systems I know of where you can get get a perfect picture without needing something like a $200+ XRGB2+

Avoid the generic $50 VGA boxes that use composite/s-video.
