In the leg... not as if someone died. Not that a faceless clerk has anything to do with the corperate mandated pricing on trade-ins. But still, it's not that offensive.

The guy is trying to make a living and you seem to be celebrating the fact that he got shot.

Think of it this way. Would you feel cool about getting shot in the leg at work by some piece of shit gangbanger and having people on message boards thinking it is cool that happened because they don't like the company you work for?

Just so the IGNORANT FUCKS know, a GameStop female employee WAS SHOT AND KILLED about a month and half ago, just as she opened the store.

I would hope that if you're ever shot at, stabbed, or befall bad times, I am there to insult your existance in the same way.

On a completely seperate note:

WHY THE HELL ARE ALL THE IDIOTS AROUND HERE ATTACHED TO A PSX nickname?! Stop ruining the damn legacy of that system!

Your original post didn't come across as a joke. It was more like something a troll would write.

If you don't like their trade-in prices, then don't bring games there. If your games are so much more valuable than what GameStop says, then sell them on Ebay.

The same people who criticize GameStop and make jokes about them all the time are also the same people who'd freak over the chance to work for them, which is why I always see posts from people asking about working there.

Yeah, it is good stuff. I can see why this guy picked the PSX nickname. Some of the other nickname options out there to choose from have ALREADY had their "legacies" ruined by guys like Bernie Stolar, Trip Hawkins and Sam Tramiel. So he wanted to pick a system that still had a "good name" among most people, I guess.

Hey again kids. First of all, yes, I would freak over the chance to get paid minimum wage. It'd be a dream come true. But anyways... my original post was intended as a joke-- rather than have a post crying over a GameStop robbery when hundreds of others happen around the country every day, I made a small joke about GameStop's practice of paying almost nothing for trade-ins. In the grand scheme of things, is GameStop's robbery important? No. The only people who consider that news are people who actually live in that town, or idiots on video game message boards.

Personally, I could care less about the practice (I don't trade-in, so it benefits me in cheaper used game prices), but hey, the easy joke was there for the taking. If you didn't find it funny, that's fine. I apologize that I am not a skilled comedian like Dangerboy. But if you could at least attempt to stop being over-sensitive for like 4 seconds, then you might realize that I never mentioned the kid being shot in my post. It did not say "*You want to trade in God of War II... Uhhh... $4* *BANG, BANG; takes money and RUNS*".... however, if you would like I can edit it to that so your overreaction is more appropriate.

Nonetheless, I have to admit that I enjoy being called an Asshat and various other insults. So please keep them coming. Just don't interrupt me while I'm listening to my iPOD, cuz who knows what I'll do.

Ummm... no one died. Nor would being shot in the leg be considered a violent way to be killed in comparison to like every other method possible. You guys must be a lot of fun to hang out with when you pry yourselves away from your keyboards. I highly doubt that after such a trauma this guy would be returning to his retail job. The psychological damage from having something like this happen would make it difficult to want to return. I doubt he’d want to work another job dealing with the public ever again, I personally wouldn’t..

JerseyDevil65
03-23-2007, 07:01 AM
Similar thing happened in a Jersey Game Stop (Route 10, Roxbury) a few years ago, 2 clerks were robbed and then murdered execution style. The crime was unsolved for almost 2 years before they caught and convicted the guys.

I'll never understand how little value some people place on another human beings life.

It is ironic that murder was in San Antonio to boot, another Texas town.

Burleson isn't that big of a town 25,000 people about. but i guess we are close to Fort Worth so that's what happens.

Good thing it wasn't the females that work there who were in the store though, no telling what might have happened.

An off duty cop seen the guys go in and called immediately for backup, when they came out they were surrounded by cops and opened fire and took off running, the swat team, helicopters and the whole manhunt ensued for about 2 hours after to get 2 of the guys. The swat team eventually caught them in the back yard of my sunday school teachers house. They had ditched the guns but the swat came in and subdued them. The funny thing is my sunday school teacher slept through the whole thing.
He is an ex-air force guy and had his gun in his nightstand as he heard about it right before they went to bed about an hour prior.

It doesn't matter whether the shot was fatal or not. The fact is, it's the inherent risk to working retail and it's never a funny news when a clerk is attacked in a robbery.

Would it have been taken more seriously had it been a convenience store clerk instead? Point is, it doesn't matter. It sucks that it happened and it's fortunate that the clerk was only shot in the leg. Doesn't mean it's laughable.

The only thing more tired than random GameStop jokes are the "in bed" jokes with Chinese food fortune cookies or Fred Ettish jokes on an Ultimate Fighting/UFC board (i.e. a last minute alternate who got pasted and bloodied up in about 10 seconds at a very early UFC event).

Apparently, you have not been exposed to real crime, or been anywhere near anyone who has. There have been at least two people brutally killed within 2 blocks of my house in the past year plus numerous other crimes and no, we don't joke about it. Fact of the matter is, it's not funny and neither are you. And before you question my experience, I've been mugged twice and been threatened with various ways to die, including but not limited to beating, stabbing and shooting, all for just existing. Many of those threats came when I was working retail for minimum wage. It's no picnic having your life threatened when you're making crap money. Let's have someone shoot you in the leg, maybe somewhere near the femoral artery, and see how you react. A violent death is still a violent death, no matter how heinous the crime may be.

You shouldn't have to retract anything, because that would be censorship and wrong, but don't jump down everyone's throat for reacting the way they do to your "joke."

Would you make a joke about some guy getting cancer? I had a friend once who did that in front of my ex-girlfriend whose mother died of colon cancer. Needless to say she was NOT pleased.

I'm sorry to hear about the various crimes in your area. I can understand why people would threaten to kill you, but I have sympathy for you anyways. However, I'm not talking about making fun of specific incidents of death. South Park made fun of Steve Irwin's death and I'm sure all of you children laughed it. But I'm not even talking about that-- I'm talking about death and crime and disease in general. If you can't have a sense of humor about the bads things in life than you are probably a very boring, stressed-out, uptight person. It's joking about things like that and having a sense of humor that makes them much easier to handle when they actually do happen.

Would I make a joke about some guy getting cancer? Hell yeah. Damn, I would make a joke if I had cancer. Let's see, do I sit around a hospital and cry about my sad life, or do I relieve my stress by laughing about it and trying to play the situation off as less serious than it is? Personally, I'd leave the serious stuff up to my doctors, and worrying about living for the time being.

Additionally, I don't care who I offend, unless what I say is actually offensive. And no bangotango, I am not trying to "retract" anything I said. I liked the line and still do. "It is ironic that murder was in San Antonio to boot, another Texas town."

About a month, maybe month and a half, ago a female employee (manager) was killed at an EBGames here in San Antonio. As she was opening up the place she was accosted, taken to the back, tied up, and then had a bag placed over her head. She suffocated as a result. While she died, the place was robbed. She was discovered by other employees when she did not answer the phone. Right now, there are no leads to her murder. Shortly therafter EBGames permanently close the store (although I think that had more to do with the fact that there were two other stores within a mile from this one, but still.....)

Hey Spartacus. Yeah, I know I'm not the only. Daria was quick to come to the defense of it early on. And honestly, I know that the majority of intelligent people on DP would not agree with what everyone else here is saying-- however, once a couple people have jumped on someone's statement, no one is going to defend it for fear of looking like an "IGNORANT FUCKS" and getting jumped on too. And then all the kids join the crowd.

Because, like it or not, the reality is that no one cares about a no name kid getting shot in the leg in a no name town. (No one except that 5 people who opposed it here.) There's far worse things going on in the world. If you can't joke about that, what can you joke about? But I expect kids on a message board to be that way, just didn't realize that DP had Mods like that too. That's why no one posts in the Modern Gaming forum.

So the 4,000 or so threads in the Modern Gaming forum appeared out of thin air?

Here is another theory.

Rather, those 4,000 topics are all just really old threads, or phony threads, that were planted here to make it look like people post here when this board is really a ghost town.

I guess that means this post isn't real, the entire thread isn't real and neither am I or anyone else in here.
