I’ve got a Cube with a GameBoy Player attached that I’ve had for years, but never gave it much attention. I played through Metroid:Zero Mission the last two days and it worked out really well on the TV. I also like Mario vs. Donkey Kong. I do have a SP, but it gets little use.

So I’m wondering, what are the “Must Play” titles for GBA.

I’m not looking for Classic Series this, or SMB AdvanceX that, because I’ve probably already got the game for the original system (or plan to). I’m looking for games to play on the TV that you can’t get anywhere else, and are absolute must plays.

A few things to help you help me :)
-I already know about the Castlevania titles.

-Not really into RPGs (I do like SRPGs, but I'm so picky about them ... a no go for FFTA or Tactics Ogre)

-I don't want to play anything where you raise puppies or sea creatures.

*looks through GBA carts* Here are my favorites that meet your critera, in decending order...

Metroid Fusion (if you liked Zero Mission, I'm sure you'll like this one as well)
Mario Kart: Super Circuit (the best Mario Kart of them all IMO)
Astro Boy: Omega Factor (an amazingly fun Sega/Treasure platformer)
Gunstar Super Heroes (not nearly as good as its predecessor, but decent)
Advance Wars (fantastic turn based strategy)

I've heard that Gradius Galaxies is excellent on a TV.

I recommend Sigma Star Saga. :)

Shining Force GBA... but only if you don't own the original. That's the only good SRPG I can think of though.

ZooCube was a pretty awesome puzzle game but the Gamecube port was a lot nicer looking. And if you're playing it on a GBA player anyway why not get the cube version.

Mario vs Donkey Kong is a must.

Ninja Five-O

I can't play it on my GBA/DS after playing on my GB Player, that's how good it is. It is easily worth whatever price you have to pay for it.

Mario and Luigi: Superstar Saga is pretty cool on the GB Player

Play FFVI, I have not used my gba player in a while but that that game is fun and come to think of it now I have an excuse to play on tv. Later.

Castlevania: Circle of the Moon

My favorite Castlevania by far, hard at times, but in a good way, and way more ghoulish than the others. It's also the easiest to find and lowest priced of the 3 (or 4, depending on how you look at it) Castlevanias on the GBA.

If you like Zelda, Minish Cap is great.

I wholeheartedly second that, and might add Yggdra Union, Rebelstar: Tactical Command, and the previously mentioned Sigma Star Saga, if they strike your interest.

I have to third Ninja Five-O. Easily one of the best games for the system.

I also suggest Racing Gears Advance. It's similar to the old RC style racers that were popular on Genesis (Micro Machines, Combat Cars, Championship Pro-Am, etc.). Fun stuff.

Honestly, any game that is great on the GBA is great on the TV. I need to second Astro Boy & Gunstar, the former being one of the best games on the system period. The Castlevanias are awesome on the TV. Mario Kart & the 2 F-Zero games benefit from a Hori SNES style pad. All things already said, but you really can't go wrong.

The only games I would stay away from are things like Colin McRae 2.0 or Sega Rally. Yes, Sega Rally sucks on the GBA too, but anything that was 3D and originally released on superior hardware is going to look awful. Same goes for the NES ports. Why play inferior versions?

All the FF games would be good.

1 - I think Astro Boy : Omega Factor is THE game to have on the GBA. So good !

2 - Sigma Star Saga is very original if you like shmups.

3 - All the FF games available on the GBA are very interesting (if you loved the originals of course).

4 - The 2 Metroid games are very good, the gameplay is fantastic.

And finally, Castlevania : Harmony of Dissonnance and Castlevania : Aria of Sorrow. Nice graphics and gameplay.

Since a lot fo the good ones have been listed alrady, I'll just add 2 favs of mine. First is Pinball of the Dead. Damn fun pinball game that comes close to Devils Crush. Second is Lunar, While not that great of a port, the graphics to me are better in many ways than the ones in the remakes on the PSX (minus the nice anime scenes). Music is still very scratchy, but the Gameboy Player makes this title even more playable to me.
