I recently got my hands on a psp and the namco museum. I never played dig dug before, but wow, I can't put it down! It's like a drug!

Yeah I loved Dig Dug II as a kid. Played it all the time on NES. I Guess I'll be setting it up soon now that I feel like playing it...

Thought everyone might enjoy this Dueling Analogs (http://www.duelinganalogs.com) strip:

Dig Dug is an awesome game, I have played many rounds of it over the years. I have never played DD2 though is it a big improvement over the original?

Dig Dug II is outstanding, but a much different game (carving up islands above ground) than the original (digging tunnels underground). Highly recommended.

LOL Oh my god that was great! Never heard of that strip and am now going to have to check it out. :)
Dig Dug II is one of the top NES games IMO. It's just so fun and you can play it for hours! 2-player mode is also available so compete for high scores.

Fans of both Dig Dug games should check out Dig Dug: Digging Strike for the DS. It mixes gameplay elements from both Dig Dug and Dig Dug II into one game and there's no forced touch screen gimmicks that hinder the classic arcade style gameplay formula.

I love the Dig Dug series. One of my fondest childhood gaming memories is going to the rollerskating parties my elementary school would put on now and then at the local rink, and in the cafeteria they had a few arcade machines and I'd try to play Dig Dug while balancing on my rollerskates. :) I also used to play the arcade version of Super Mario Bros. there.

I've always been a fan of Dig Dug. Played it quite a lot on the Atari 5200, which for many years was the only version of it I had. Now I make a crusade of getting ever version I can of all the big classics's that I love. I've only had DD II on the NES for a few months. It's definitely different. It took a lot to get used to it but now I thoroughly enjoy it. Still need to get the original Dig Dug for the NES though.

Is this a DS title that has limited distribution or is it widely available?

I should give DD2 more of a play. It is great from what I've played of it; good ol' fashioned groundbreaking arcade fun. The original is definitely one of my absolute favorites (and probably my most-played title on the PSX Namco Museum 3). Makes me wish they would have released DD2 on the consoles... but ah well.

It had a wide release. The thing about it is, like Namcos other first year releases, the game didn't get repeated print runs. Most big retailers won't have it in stock anymore, but I still see new copies at local EB/GS stores. They sell it for $14.99 or $19.99 new, I forget which. Other than game specialty stores, your best bet might be Toys R' Us in one of their clearence bins.

It's available in MAME as well...
Is the DS version identical or updated?

This looks like a descent title...and some intriguing interplay between screens. Hopefully the game remains challenging and not an easy cakewalk.
BTW, in the first video on the link there is a 30 second sequence where you go into a Xevious like mode.....what is that about?
