...For Microsoft, that is. (http://www.next-gen.biz/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=5001&Itemid=2&limit=1&limitstart=0)

All in all, Sony haven't exactly had the best time of it in Europe. When you consider 600 euros= ~$700 and £425= ~$775, do you even need to ask why?

Lame stuff by MS to be honest. Seems more like the work of Xbox fanboys than something MS officially would do, but who knows.

Anyway, isnt it alittle early to say how well it went in Europe? I mean, 1 million consoles avalible at launch, why queue up? Anyone got the status of the 950 that they didnt sold right now? 600 euros is indeed alot of money so only the special interested will buy it now.

I was thinking to drive alittle around soon and check the status here. Im sure there are some avalible.

maybe they should have issued free TVs with it :-)

but honstly, a console launch in March will never be a sellout, Europeans just recovering from X-Mas

I remember the Nintendo Game Cube being launched in the UK in May 2002. Worst month ever, they probably sold about 50 units in the whole country, so other companies did just as bad in the past.

So a fanboy rented a yacht and had a 50ft Xbox sign printed up and draped over it just because they just love Microsoft so much.

These same fanboys also somehow managed to get the cell phone numbers to all of the members of the press who were there to cover the PS3 launch.

Those are some damn resourceful fanboys.

It was however a pretty cute MS prank

Spring is a bad time for a launch in any northern country...unless of course the companies are targeting gamers that don't go outdoors LOL

You mean aside from the fact it became the UK's fastest selling console ever on launch at the time, until it lost the record to the Xbox360? ;)

fastest selling, maybe, but still small amounts. Fast does not mean 'many'. Remember lots of info was wrongly hyped-up information from Nintendo at the time (Units shipped to shops, not sold. Later, shops like Curry's had to give away free Game Cubes when purchasing 4 game titles just to get rid of that thing)

Sure, it might be hearlded as the best launch ever. However, demand did not meet supply, and after the initial sales, where do they go from there? Wouldn't anyone who wanted a PS3 already have got one if they have not sold out?

Yeah, no kidding. Love 'em or hate 'em, it's hard to deny that Microsoft are a shifty bunch of goons, with sky-high resources to throw towards stunts like these. It's actually a little surprising that they were so overt about it though.

Wow I read through all of these articles and it looks real bad for Sony. This is just an embarassment and a total smack to their arrogant faces.

I have to say I enjoyed reading all of them..

Kudos to Microsoft for having such a guerilla marketing campaign for these events, however they could have just saved the money by photocopying a few flyers and handing them to the humiliated PS3 customers that were in line.

A few of these videos look like the first buyer was avoiding the camera like a prisoner avoids the camera when he is caught and being escorted by police..

This is the stuff of great stories later I have to say!

you still have to remember Sony has two of the worlds best selling consoles (PSX, PS2), so they are not that worried. Even now, PS2 is still outselling PS3, cool for them.
