Two weeks ago I purchased an NES extension cable through ebay. The seller did not contact me for the first 6 days, even though I paid immediately through paypal after winning the auction. I always ask (in the comment box on paypal) to get a response from the seller "via email when the item ships." I personally think this is a reasonable request, and have never had an issue with it.
This particular seller (item http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=140087762127&sspagename=ADME:B:AAQ:US:1) chose to ignore that request. This happens, and did incur any type of "wrath" on my part. However, I ebay messaged him and emailed him two seperate times with no response. After multiple attempts, my last email threatend to "go to ebay" if I was not given any status. This was after 7 days of payment and no contact.
Finally, I received a message from the seller who claimed to have shipped the item but had waited because "he saw my address was not confirmed and had attempted to contact me but received no response." This -clearly- was not possible since I had been attempting to contact him for days!
Long story short...I finally received my NES extension cable (about 2 weeks after payment) and it works fine. To avoid any potential issues, I left him very positive feedback. Today on my ebay account I noticed that I still had not received feedback from him. Here is a quick summary of the back and forth emails that are happening.(I'm trying HARD to make this go away and get positive feedback...)
AGBulls:
"Can you please leave me feedback? I left you positive feedback almost two weeks ago. Thanks!"
Seller:
"no you were very rude and telling me you are going to report me to e-bay or refund your money after 4 days waiting for a item."
AGBulls:
"Rude? That was never my intention, and apologize if that was your impression. Regardless, I held up my end of the bargain. I paid immediately upon winning the auction and was only requesting shipping status. After not receiving any type of concrete answer, I became irritated. I don't think questions regarding shipping (when I have paid on time) warrant neutral or negative feedback. I even went ahead and left you very positive feedback. Why would you chose not to do the same at this point?
Please let me know.
Regards"
Seller:
"You think threating someone is right yes or no."
AGBulls:
"My intention was not to threaten you--but to receive an answer which I did not feel I was receiving. I felt my best option was to mention going to ebay at that point (which I regret). Can't we resolve this amicably?"

I've already figured that much. Thanks for the support. The question is why is he waiting if he hasn't already?

Feedback isn't mandatory and no feedback is always better than negative feedback.
You got your item, I'd drop it

Thanks for the info. I wrongly thought you had to leave some type of feedback. I'm going to leave well-enough alone.

I never press anyone on ebay to leave feedback for me. If I'm the seller, I will not leave feedback until it is left for me. But if the transaction was at all shady, I just won't leave any feedback at all due to the possiblity of getting negative feedback. Let it go and hope he does not leave you negative feedback.

I really hate that note box on paypal payments, I dont recommend using it. Use the contact seller option and just send an email. Many times sellers will not check the paypal message on the off chance a note is attached.
The only way to see the paypal note is to view each payment through email/ebay/paypal. Might not seem like much but if you get 100 paypal payments in a month you dont want to have to constantly be looking at them all the time to try and find buyer notes.
I like to use the bulk label printing but the way its set up it skips the page that shows notes, so if there is a note I cant see it.
I was actually mulling over how to fix paypal notes yesterday. If they could make it so anytime a buyer sends a note with their payment a duplicate message is sent to your ebay mailbox. Ex: "You have recieved a paypal note from xxx" or something to that effect.
Ebay has too many other glaring flaws to work on, I doubt thats of any concern right now.

Yup, that would be the best course of action.

You know, i always leave feedback, but I also always wait quite a long time before I do so. I just let myself accumulate a couple so it is worth my while. I never understood the person who would freak out when they didn't get feedback the next day. Even if you don't get any, big deal!
Well, I can understand if you have under 10 feedback you might want some, but other than that.

Not to sound like a Seller Apologist... but I completely agree with everything the seller did.
The seller did not contact me for the first 6 days, even though I paid immediately through paypal after winning the auction. I always ask (in the comment box on paypal) to get a response from the seller "via email when the item ships." I personally think this is a reasonable request, and have never had an issue with it.
Be prepared to have your request ignored...frequently. The ideal ebay transaction involves NO EMAIL. The buyer wins and pays correctly, the seller ships promptly, and the item is received within two weeks or so at the most. There is no reason for either party to email each other unless there is a problem. If you don't believe the seller is going to ship, why did you bid?
After multiple attempts, my last email threatend to "go to ebay" if I was not given any status. This was after 7 days of payment and no contact.
As a seller, when I get emails of this ilk, I share them with my friends and colleagues, we laugh, and I save it into my ebay "Funny Folder." "Go to ebay"? After seven days? Go nuts! At least that'll be one less pointless email for me to read. Be patient and your item will arrive. "Go to ebay" after AT LEAST two weeks.
I finally received my NES extension cable (about 2 weeks after payment) and it works fine.
Two weeks for an item to arrive is fair. Not great, but acceptable - enough to still earn a positive. Obviously you'd like it sooner, but it gives the seller a few days to ship and a few days to arrive. Not all sellers go to the PO every day. Even ebay says all around the site to give sellers two weeks before going bezerk.

Id have done what the seller has done too.. It seems like youre generally bugging him and being annoying over a feedback score of all things. That whole "going to ebay" thing is a joke too, he probably knew that.

Don't worry about the guy. After 90 days he can no longer post deeback on the item and knowing this dork, he'll probably wait up until the last day to post something so it CAN'T be changed/commented-on after the fact...
...but the good news is that in all likelihood, over the course of that time he'll forget about it and move on, like any normal human would.
I know it sucks when people don't respond back but I never expect to get an instant anything on eBay, except if I'm expecting payment from a buyer, which I enforce by threatening IMMEDIATE negative feedback if not paid on time in the auction listing.
I get delivery confirmation on EVERYTHING and I'm concerned less with WHEN the item ships then I am with what the tracking # is. If I don't have that, I have no evidence my goods were ever sent.
I'm really paranoid of buying things off eBay after last September when a guy too over $200 from me for a XBox 360 system and refused to give me tracking/insurance #s and never sent item. I got my money back, sans Paypal fee costs, but that jerkwad ripped me off big time...and I've been doing eBay since 2001, so I can usually spot shady people.
Live and learn, and I wish you the best.

Ryborg mentions that frequently sellers ignore any and all contact you try to make with them. I have found this to be very true of Ebay. Unless you really hound a seller they will not reply even if you have a problem. Though I think this is one of the problems associated with Ebay, that sellers will not take the time to respond to questions or issues buyers are having. I really don’t think Agbulls request for shipping confirmation was really that ridiculous. A lot of people like to be notified when their package was shipped since it gives them a time frame as to when to expect their packages. I think that Ebay sellers need to recognize that customer service if a vital part of the customers experience. People who are treated badly by a seller typically do not buy from them again. So that one minute it would have taken to respond to his request would have kept him as a potential future customer. I have sold a lot of stuff on Ebay in the past and I have always taken the time to respond to customer inquiries. Typically I spent less than a minute doing so and it always ended with me and the customer being satisfied with the transaction. Good communication is important to building strong customer relations. When you take the time to respond to a customer and to address their concerns you are building good customer relationships. Psychologically speaking it allows the customer to think, “This seller really cares about my concerns and questions.” Overall customers in this mind set are more willing to work with the seller if a problem does occur and are more likely to buy from you again. Even if you could care less about what the customer has to say, at least they think that you care and that is what really matters. So really isn’t that worth that one minute of time?

I got into an argument with with someone for filling out that box. I had stated that Pancakes were way better than Waffles. Apparently the seller was an Eggo fanboy.

The thing is, it's not just "one minute of time." Perhaps it is if you sell 1-10 items a week or so, but if you always have ~50-100+ items up for auction, the needless emails build up very quickly, especially if you're selling a product frequently used by younger people, who are more likely to be impatient.
Let's say it takes under a minute to read the email, and another few minutes to locate the DC number and respond in the manner you suggested, typing in the exact 20-digit number and checking to make sure it's correct. That's about five minutes per email. Say you get 5-8 of these a day. That's half an hour every day completely wasted.
The cold, hard reality of it is that if the average customer receives the item promptly and in great condition, while paying what they feel is a great price, they will consider coming back, emails or not.
There's a difference between good customer relations and holding someone's hand throughout the entire transaction. Whenever an actual problem or a real concern arises, yeah, you should respond ASAP. However, whenever I get an email that starts with "hey where is my..." or "LOL ITS BEEN 3 DAYS WHEN R U...", it goes right into the email dumpster, unless it's a high-end item or something with a serious time factor (tickets, etc).

If you have the item # you can leave feedback and comments 6-8 months later or even longer.

By the way, I almost never remember to check my paypal payment comments, and everyone I pay never seems to as well. You should try sending a message to the seller through eBay, better chance he/she will get it.

Really, I thought that because item listings dissapear after 3 months commenting isn't allowed after that either.

Nope if you have the item # you can view it and add your feedback/comments from the items page even after many months .
