Since I have recently aquired the rare Galaxian for the Vic, I figured I'd do a little reading on it as well. Everything (including Ward's FAQ) that talks about the cart says the main screen copyright date is "1984", although mine says "1983". I am just wondering what other peoples Vic Galaxian carts say on teh title...and maybe if I have a special cart. I also emailed Ward. Can anyone confirm?

Anyone else got it besides myself, Zektor? Anyhow I'll plug mine in tonight and have a look...
I'll check mine tonight too!

Cool. Thanks guys. Because if both of yours say 1984, this may mean that mine was released earlier...prehaps even a pre-release?

Didn't get a chance last night... hopefully tonight...
er... same here. :embarrassed:
Mine is the same. It says 1983 on both the cart label and the title screen.

I can't believe that I not only opened my sealed Galaxian VIC-20 but also dragged my VIC-20 out of retirement for this.
Mine say 1983.
I played a few other games on the system while I had it out, just to re-experience it. One general comment: Atarisoft typically has some of the best third-party software for non-Atari systems. NOT SO with VIC-20, IMHO. Almost as if "they never quite got it".
Anyway, hope this helps.

Aww Joe, you didn't have to open it for this! Yeah, most if the Atarisoft titles are like that, although I do have to say the play mechanics in many cases are just right. Donkey Kong for one looks crude, but seems to play pretty good. I don't know what happened with Pacman and Ms. Pacman however. They really should have worked a deal with Commodore and took the Jelly Monsters title and slapped the name "Pacman" on it. Commodore themselves did awesome arcade clones on the system like that game, Avenger (ie Space Invaders), Star Battle (ie Galaxian) and some others. BAck on topic, I guess the FAQ is wrong and no other cart games were made after 1983?

I'm not completely sure what the confusion is, the DP Guide says the game was RELEASED in 1984, not that it's copyright 1984. My guess is that the FAQ is older than the DP Guide info, so perhaps Ward learned a thing or two in between researching projects.

Speaking of which, who's in charge of the Vic20 section now? I have a couple of things to note for it... such as that several titles got their own release here in the UK under a different distributor, and had new packaging and cart labels to go with it...

We are presently taking applications for the Arcadia 2001 and VIC-20 sections vacated by the "retired from the internet" Ward Shrake. His work lives on, an incredible amount of detail went into it, so really only tweaking and new rumors are left, but these sections do need a capable successor/owner.

Unless one of the other Arcadia fanatics wants to take it over I can do that section. Arcadia fanatics seem to be in short supply...

Do it up man. While I am not new to the Vic, I am new to all the new carts I am coming across. I never even imagines this many were made. If I were more of a Vic "pro", I'd take the role myself.
