I've been wanting to pick up some decent arcade sticks so I wonderd what some of your favs are. :)

Looking for the following systems.
PS2:... I've heard the Tekken5 stick was good and I've also heard there is a really good deal at Gamestop but neither of the Gamestops I've dropped by has them. :( How about the SF Ann. Stick? :hmm:
XBOX:
XBOX 360: ... I would really like some thoughts on the Hori DOA4 arcade stick.

I'm pretty much set up for my older systems for the moment except the dreamcast and genny

THanks! :D

I think the SFA stick is, for the most part, a piece of crap. The diagonals are awful, and the buttons have a ridiculous amount of travel, and really don't feel all that sturdy anyway. About half the buttons in mine were loose in the sockets and could be spun freely.

I've got a pair of Tekken 5 sticks and love 'em, though I mostly use them for shooters, seeing as I'm completely horrible at fighters.

I've got the DOA4 Hori stick and like it a lot. Mainly use it for SFII in the XBLA. I know most people say it's not that great of a stick but I have no complaints. Would be nice if it was wireless though.

HRAP

Is THE best console stick right now, otherwise get a tekken 5 stick and mod it with sanwa or seimitsu parts ( which is dirt cheap also ), it's all you will ever need, providing it does not die on you, which hardly ever happens since their sticks should last a lifetime as long as you dont beat on it like some scrub.

HRAP Sticks, DOA Sticks, Tekken Sticks are all Japanese style sticks.

If you want an American stick, the only ones are: X-Arcade, NubyTech SF Anniversary Stick, Pelican Real Arcade Stick, MAS Stick, and custom sticks.

X-Arcade, NubyTech, and Pelican all use renditions of a Happ Super style joystick.

The Mas Stick comes with a Happ Ultimate hard spring stick normally. Custom Sticks can be done by those in the community. SOme are sold on the buying/selling forums on www.shoryuken.com

If you want a good "stock" American stick, the SFA NubyTech stick is good for a mass market stick. Diagonals are fine on the stick, buttons are slightly raised, semi convex style.

I'm a seasoned/veteran tournament fighting game player, and I can assure you that if I was to choose a "stock" stick, I would use the SFA stick for "most" games. If was going to play a game like Tekken/VF, I would recommend a Japanese style Hori arcade stick. Again, it's all preference of what you were comfortable with using in the arcade. Japanese sticks have a smaller range of motion, so they are recommended in the long run for expert players.

Thanks everyone. :) seems like almost all of you like the HRAP.
Thanks for all the other pro and con reports on the others. Good to see a decent review on the DOA4 stick too.
I'm wanting one mainly for 2D/3D fighters as well as any Shmups. :)

I found a new SF Anniv Stick at EB for 19 bucks. It has a really well made case and nice hideaway spot for cord. Like Davidbrit said the buttons are horrible, and the stick is ok....not great.
But, for 19 bucks it's worth getting and then dropping in some
sanwa or happ parts to your liking.

Just to clarify something, if you do want a hori stick with minimal time wasted and extra cash and shipping, drop an email to play asia or mark it so you get notified when they get more hrap1v2 in stock.

I am saying this because the DOA and Tekken sticks while being hori and the exact same case parts, the actual stick is not a japanese sanwa, and on all versions aside from the special edition hrap2, the buttons and ball tops are hori stock.

Luckily the sanwa buttons are easy and cheap to get.

The hrap3 is out, however I dunno if it works with the ps2 or not, since it is usb...not sure if ps2 accepts usb gamepads ( although it probably does ) and the hrap3 looks very sexy...all black.

The biggest downside ( or at least seems that way at first ) is the shipping and possible duty, I ordered my hrap last summer and it was only 79, but with shipping and duty it wound up costing me more around 145 canadian, which yea it might seem alot but look at it this way, its the best comercial stick you can buy hands down, anything else or custom build sticks while good you are looking at more like 299+

A hrap will last you forever ( and you can buy an extra stick for like 24 bucks just in case you want an extra one for later ) if you plan on playing 2d fighters and shmups for years, its an outstanding investment and much cheaper than building or buying cabs.

It's a sweet looking stick Mark, I have had my eye on it for a while even after buying my hrap1vb.

For older 2d fighters I think it is a better buy since you get the sanwa stick and buttons from the get go, however I do love having my 8 buttons for those just in case times.

I would say get this over hrap right now since hrap1 is sold out and hrap3 only works on ps3 and pc as far as I know.
