My Genesis came to me second-hand from a none-too-neat cousin who doesn't appreciate the venerable old classics quite as much as I do. Old as it is, the controller is in fairly bad shape. The buttons, especially B, require enough pressure to, if not move an elephant, than at leat make it scooch over a little, before it will respond. This quickly gets quite hard on the thumbs. My first inclination was to open it up and try to clean it, but the screws in the back are on so tight that even after applying WD-40 I can't get them to budge. Any suggestions?

it may be time for a new controller if WD-40 won't loosen a screw or two. i dunno if sega still has it's parts shoppe site still up, or perhaps someone here can get you a replacement... :-D

I know what you mean...It happens to me. First of all the reason any screws
could be stuck is because the plastic strunk. No joke it happens when the
plastic case gets overheated. Best thing to do is get a screwdriver that
fits perfectly, before pressing hard then turn slowly. This should work
unless the points where the srcews make contact on the opposite side
breaks then you have to glue it back together...superglue is best.

Also when cleaning any controller. Use only alcohol the same used to clean
game contacts or CDs...and plunty of Q-tips
