Just curious.. how reliable are the prices? If a game is bought for less than the price suggested on the database, is it always a good deal?
I would say yes. From what I can gather prices in the guide are on the low end.

Depends heavily on the system. For most of the pre-NES stuff (with the exceptions of most of the R7+'s), the guide price is actually a bit higher than fair market value. NES to PS1/N64 era, though, it's usually close to correct to a bit low.

Exactly what I was wondering because I see a lot of older games on ebay that have BINs lower than the prices in the database.

Yeah, the prices on the high-demand SNES RPGs are actually around half of what they typically go for. That applies to a lot of the high-demand games on any system actually.

I hate to say it but if you can get games AT the price suggested in the guide then you most likely got a good deal. Prices in guide have historically benefited the buyer. I know that everyone says that eBay prices don't count but as a seller unless you're selling to a friend and want to do him a favor you'd be ignorant to not factor eBay prices in when you price an item you're selling.

There is various properties that affect price.
If there is less of something- meaning it is high demand since there is barely any of it. For collectors the price rise. It does not matter how good or bad the game is.
If a certain person work on the game- Like programmers, actors, artists, commedians, polititians, writers. Generally somebody who has alot to offer or is already famous. Like if Mcheal Jackson made a game on any system they would instantly be worth gold. That plus his sig or kiss mark would be plasma.
If the game is fun to play by many people- like somebody played something and will give a huge load of cash just to play it again.
You have a memorty or memories tied to ceratin game objects- Like I played this or that or sawed that in a store and want to buy it.
Generally it depends on popularity and intelligence. You also have to conisder a job is a job and the people who work on this just consider it part of what they do and nothing special.

Not when you add in shipping, at least for common-to-uncommon titles. If you BIN a game DP lists as worth $5 for $1 and pay $7 shipping, you've overpaid.

I didn't realize moonwalker and space channel 5 were worth that much...
