Hi everyone,

Glad to see a site like this exists.

I replaced my 72 pin connector in my NES a month ago and my NES works perfect again.

I told a friend I would do the same for his but I'm running into some problems.

I replaced his 72 pin with a new one and the color output is wrong.

Whites are orange, reds are purple.

I tried a different new 72 pin and its doing the same thing.

I also tried a different rf adapter and 2 sets of composite cables and 2 tv sets and it does the same thing every time.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
STeve

my guess is to try and clean the actual connector pins on the motherboard. I always do this in prep. of putting on a new connector.

I cleaned it with a white eraser as suggested somewhere else.

Is there some kind of cleaner anyone would recommend?

Ok,

last chance.

I am giving up unless someone has some advice.

The nes works perfect with the new 72 pin, and its all cleaned up and shiny.

Its such a waste that the colors are wrong. Its like their tinted wrong. Is there something wrong with the motherboard or something.

any help is appreciated or its off to ebay as an as-is auction.

Thanks,
sTeve

This is just your NES, no other consoles/video signal? It's every nintendo game?

Can you try it with a different TV? Does it do that with the RCA video out and the RF out?

If the colors are wrong on both the RF & A/V outs, the PPU was probably damaged during the procedure. There aren't any external adjustments for color phase.

PPU?

What, if anything would you recommend to get the colors correct.

Just to clarify, I've tried it on different TVs with different games.

Same TVs, Same Games different Nes and everything is looking great.

If it was an OSG system, I would throw that motherboard away, and put in a different one. Every other option would take too much time.

I realize that it's not helpful, but it's the truth. NES parts are easy to come by, and therefore shop time on surface level board repair is generally not the way to go.

PPU = Picture Processing Unit, the video chip.

If you want to fix it, you'll need an original design template of the chip... and a tiny spaceship... and... have you ever seen Fantastic Voyage?

Yeah fantastic voyage, that was a good one.

Thanks for everybodys help. So replace the motherboard and I should most likely be fine.

Thanks again,
Steve
