Since the working Designs website is no longer online, I was wondering if anyone ever archived their disc art variations, primarily for Lunar Sega CD, but the others as well if available. Thanks.

I'd like to note that another way to find out if a Lunar: TSS case contains the rarest disc is to look at the barcode on the back case. Somewhere to the right there should be a little blue dot sticker of cases that have that disc, provided its the original case the disc came in.

Wow, talk about thorough collecting. I don't even want to imagine how much all those variants would be worth. :P

I always knew you had something about all those in your sig, but just wasn't quite sure. Pretty amazing to see what it was all about now. :)
I just have Lunar 1 & 2 for the PS1 complete in their boxes, and actually one was *sealed* and I opened it. I couldn't tell if it was a reseal, but I'm not worried about that because I just wanted to play it and have the pretty box. Yey!
And I really wanted that complete Arc of the Lad for the PS. I have only found it a couple of times, each of which it wasn't complete except this one time at EB years ago, but of course it was $80 and I didn't have that kind of money to spend.

I wonder, did you think the sig picture was a rip-off?

Mostly from eBay. I rarely see these games in the wild and they are usually overpriced. My best score from eBay was the Lunar: TSS with the rarest disc art. I hit a BIN for a like-new copy for $17 shipped. It's just like what they say about golf, those few awesome shots keep you coming back. I also hit a BIN on a Dragon Force complete for $8 shipped. The description said the game CD was scratched worse than the seller had ever seen. He said he doubted it would play. When it arrived the CD wasn't that bad, I see much worse all the time. It even played with no problem. At the time I already had that disc art so I sold it but still a great score.

Not at all. I thought it was a picture of a haul from stumbling across a warehouse or something.

That's a VERY nice setup! I guess I come in second behind you, in that I have all the Lunar: TSS disc art covers and the 3 for MKR. I think I only saw the Arc the Lad second series once. Nice indeed....
I like Lunar SSS and EB for Playstation more.. Aside from the nice anime scenes and the extra beefed-up storyline in SSSC, I still easily prefer the originals, especially EB. Again, the PSX remakes arent bad, but the originals are still better to me. I'm even playing through EB again on my trusty Sega CD :)

The one with just the red dragon is said to be the rarest. I found that to be true in my experience too.

Nope, blood, sweat and tears (well, maybe not blood or tears, but some sweat.) and time.

Thanks! You mean Albert Odyssey instead of Arc The Lad though, right? Those are all Sega CD and Saturn games.

I was really excited to play the Lunar: SSSC but it was changed too much for me. I thought all the stuff they added in was mostly BS. Lunar: TSS has no equal IMO.
I liked Lunar: EB but not enough to finish it. I really wanted to continue on as Alex. Also I was about halfway through when I got infatuated with the inventory trick which caused me to screw up my save.

I just got in duplicates of both Lunars for the Playstation. I was wondering, is there a rarer set for Eternal Blue, or are they both the same (I now have one of each). Also for SSC, one of the backarts depicts a girl looking frightened with a demon or something in the back, while the other is an upskirt pic. The first one also doesn't have anything on the spine, which is weird because that is where the SLUS is supposed to be. Is one of those rarer than the other? I've looked online, but couldn't find anything.

Damn Working Designs, with their making me want to own all the variants. If the box art was different, too, I don't think I could resist.

IIRC, the last one, with the reddish bar and all the characters.
My question: which is the rarest MKR print?

I just bought Lunar: The Silver Star from Digital Press today. The disc has Alex posing on the left with all the other characters faces assembled on the right. Behind them is like a red/orange tapestry. Did I score the rarest variant? If so, neat. Especially since this is my favorite of them all.
I hear that each Rayearth disc is equal so you have just as much chance of getting Hikaru, as you do Umi and Fuu. But while everyone talks about Magic Knight Rayearth having 3 variants (Sadly, I got stuck with Fuu myself) I could swear I remember people told me they have a disc with all three girls on it. Is there a rare fourth variant?
By the way, a bunch of those links don't work.

I'd never had the luck to see any other Rayearth girl but Fuu. I have Fuu, 4 of my friends had Fuu, all the ones I ever seen at EB Games was Fuu. I'm guessing Fuu was the only one you could get at EB Games. I was starting to think it was a myth that others existed until I seen the image above. I've also read that there was a Mokona one as well, but I guess that's a false rumor.

I always figured the discs printed with Hikaru were the rarest because I never could for the line of me track one down. I've had discs with either Umi or Fuu printed on them. I think the art on the disc I own is of Umi (the blue haired one ;) ). As for Dragon Force, I want to say the disc I've got is the one that has the red dragon on it but I've owned/seen the three other variants pictured.
I've no idea what art is on my Lunar discs ^^;

I have these questions all the time when I'm bidding on ebay, especially if I don't personally care what edition I get.
You see such a variety of prices for various "special editions", "fan art versions" and such that for folks who just want a copy so they can enjoy playing the game, its hard to know what exactly is a "fare" price for each version.
For my PSone copy of "Silver Star Story" the ebay listing said "complete", and so in my ignorance I though I, you know, got everything. I had no idea the game had "complete" in the title. (the guy had just typed what it said on the game's jewel case, but when I got my copy it was missing the hardbound booklet, cardboard box, and various other pieces that I later noticed came with some versions)

Here (http://www.sega-16.com/feature_page.php?id=108&title=The%20Sega%20CD's%20Finest%20Hour:%20The%20L unar%20Games) should be a working link for the Sega-16 article posted earlier. And I was right, the one with Alex on the left and the reddish bar behind him with the other characters on it, is the rarest one. I personally have the really orange one. My favorite, though, is the third one.
For some reason, I thought EB had variants, but I was apparently wrong.

Don't take what I said about all three girls having equal printings as doctrine. I'm only going by what I remember hearing from other people. I would like to see if there is a fourth disc variation though.
As for Growlanser Generations, I'm pretty sure there aren't any variations. Working Designs was already up shit's creek when they were forced to package II and III together. Add in the trouble of releasing both a "standard" and "deluxe" package simultaneously (including all their other financial problems at the time) and you can be sure printing disc variants wasn't a high priority.
Lunar: Silver Star Story Complete (PSX) had four variations, five if you count the "Fan Art" edition released a couple years later. Though I'm only talking about the two game discs. I have no idea if the soundtrack and "Making Of" discs had variants.
Version 1: Dyne Ghaleon and Lemina on Disc 1, Alex and Luna on Disc 2.
Version 2: Luna on both discs (one as Althena).
Version 3: Alex and Luna on Disc 1, Alex/Nash/Mia on Disc 2.
Version 4: Magic Emperor on Disc 1, Xenobia/Royce/Phacia on Disc 2.
Version 5: Fan Art edition.
I'm not certain but I think that's in order of rarity.

Its suppose to.
The Limited Edition is suppose to have a different set than the regular release. It would be confirmed by looking at the SLUS on the spine of the boxes, but it seems that for some reason I didn't add Growlanser to my list for some reason so I can't tell you what the LE SLUS spine is right now.

Even SSSC has variants? Dang...I need to stop checking this thread. My theoretical expenses for collecting them all is getting very high...
EDIT:
Anyone have pictures of the various SSSC arts? If not, we could probably pool them together (I can provide #3). Also, a correction for #3: the second disc has Alex, Nash, Mia, and Ghaleon. And on Version 1, is it Lemina, or Lemia on the disc? Lemia makes more sense :)
Does EBC have variants?
I was going to make a new thread forthis, but figured I would post it here instead. Who owns the publishing rights to the Lunar series, with WD gone? Game Arts?

I've not seen a page that lists the rarities of all of them, but here's one that has a bit of info:
http://www.sega-16.com/feature_page.php?id=108&title=The%20Sega%20CD's%20Finest%20Hour:%20The%20L unar%20Games
Basically, the first one (stamped by Sega) is the most common. The last one is the most rare. The others fall somewhere in between. Yours is probably in the middle in terms of rarity. It's also the one I have (well, I might have another, different one, but it's in a sealed copy, so I'll never know).

Reason I asked was because I know I saw a page somewhere that actually listed the 7 labels in terms of being the most common to the super rare ones. Anyhow, nice to see I have a middle rarity one. :)

That page that you are refering to Kaine was on Working Designs website originally. The original one has been gone since WD pulled the plug on it back in 06/07, but that Sega-16 page has them in the same order WD listed them in rarity wise.

I have a MINT Hikaru one that I will be selling shortly...
I loved the original Sega CD Lunar. I tried to wait for the "sequel", but I gave up on the Sega CD system before it could be released.
A couple years ago I snagged both games for the PS1, but they just were not the same at all. Ruined, even.
