I recently found my original gb in the attic and was wondering if anybody knows of some decent RPGs for the old tank. I know there were a couple of final fantasy games I'll probably look for but other than that I'm pretty clueless.

thats about it in terms of games you might enjoy... the zelda game is one of the best in my opinion. FF adventure i like more than the others, its actually the first game in the Secret of... series.

Second on Zelda.

Ultima: Runes of Virtue I & II are ok (although they are more action-RPG than RPG). I haven't tried either Sword of Hope game, but the screenshots I've seen sort of makes me want to track them down.

You may want to look into Great Greed.

I'll have to look into Sword of Hope and Great Greed. I just miss the old days of challenging RPGs.

In case you need the actual full names of those games people have mentioned.......

Final Fantasy Adventure
Final Fantasy Legend
Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening

As annoying as they are the pokemon games are an rpg that can kill some time. Not necessarily the best but hey. I'm pretty sure I got yellow red and blue to work on the original.

Final Fantasy Legend

Isn't Final Fantasy Adventure the original Suiken Densetsu (Mana series), which was remastered on GBA as Sword of Mana?

And I beleive that Final Fantasy Legend is part of the SaGa franchise. I was always understanding that "Final Fantasy" was tacked on for name recognition and to generate sales in the North America market.

Pokemon Yellow will eat up a few hours for you. Check out the 'Final Fantasy' titles for it too.

IIRC, Final Fantasy Legend is very, very good.

Final Fantasy Legend II. Fair amount of time to put in, pretty good story and a good level of challenge. Plus, I loved the monster/meat system.

Final Fantasy Legend II is waaaaay better than the original FFL. It's really unique. I never finished FFL3, but I remember enjoying that one, too. That game feels more like a traditional RPG than FFL2 though.

Pokemon is a great game, and if you never played one of the Pokemon RPGs, might as well.

If you consider Zelda as an action RPG, obviously Link's Awakening should be given a shot, since it is the best Zelda game of all time. Seriously.

Unfortunately, that's about it for Gameboy RPGs, because 95% of RPGs for the system were never released in English.

Aeon Genesis did a full translation of God Medicine, but I haven't played it.

Count me as a third vote for Great Greed, one of the true overlooked gems of the system.

I'd definatly go with Zelda: Link's Awakening (It's not an RPG, though) and anything Pokemon

Yep, the FFL games were the initial entries in the SaGa series, and all three are excellent. My personal preference would be FFL2...FFL1 feels a bit rough around the edges in the later worlds (mostly translation issues). FFL3 is consistent with the later Final Fantasy games in many ways (airships, etc), but still not quite the same as FF. I think those three are among my favorite RPG's of all time, probably due to my early exposure to them.

Another vote for the FFL series. I've played the lot. These were my 1st ever exposure to videogame RPG's so they'll always occupy a special place for me. FFL2 is probably the best of the series.

You likewise can't go wrong with Zelda: Link's Awakening.

FF Adventure is probably my favorite GB game, I wasn't satisfied with the GBA re-make tho.

FF Legend 2 is a great game, I would've finished it if the save file didn't die on me.

What was the name of that guy who did the English localization for FF7 and Vandal Hearts? I keep forgetting! Anyway, his first project for Square was FFLIII.

Ahh, Ted Woolsey! (Thank you, Stargate, for putting that name back in my head.)

I always wanted to try out Sword of Hope and Rolan's Curse, as they looked like fun. I never did get around to buying them though, so no idea if they're worth playing. Both of them got sequels though, if that means anything.

The Ultima: Runes of Virtue games are more like puzzle games with some incidental RPG qualities. But then, I'm a big Ultima fan, so maybe I'm just bitter that these games were so different from the rest of the series.

If you enjoy SRPGs in even the slightest then you need to pick up Heroes of Might and Magic I and II for Gameboy (....Color ....sorry :( )

Woolsey didn't do FF7 and Vandal Hearts. He had left Square by that time. But yes, his first translation what FFLIII.

Yeah, I was thinking of Shadow Madness.
