I was very bored this morning and decided to use up this can of gold enamel spray paint i had knocking around. took the ps1 apart and masked off the logo. problem was i ran out of paint for the bottom piece and the underside of the lid. looks pretty good now anyway. shame it has a few scratches on the lid. the vents on the side look great!

hey for any of you guys who are interested, I work at professional Body Shop (car repair) My Dad owns it. I can custom paint pretty much ANY system any color. professionally with Car paint. (stuff is awesome). I wouldnt charge too much, although the paint is pretty expensive. Just lemme know. thanks :-)

Looks great. How did you keep from paint getting on the sensitive parts inside the unit? Did you take the whole shell off and then paint it?

i used plasti kote fast dry enamel paint (usually for models etc) i took the ps1 shell off and then took the lid apart, i have like 5 ps1`s so i didnt mind if i couldnt reassemble it first time. i used a couple of thin coats and masked off the bits i didnt want painted. i also took the buttons out of the case too so they wouldnt go gold. i only have gold so i also have a good looking n64 controller

i took this apart completely too, the buttons and all, was annoying to put back together.

You need a gold chain and make them into some funky-fresh medalions!

i swear to god you read my mind when i saw my finished n64 controller i went and got some gold chain from the hardware store, problem is the links wouldnt fit into the hole where the lead went (controller was broken already)

also thought it would be cool to mount it on a pimp stick :P

p.s. for halloween use not for everday!!!

Automotive paint does work well and look nice to boot. My friend painted his PlayStation Black with extra paint from painting their Grand Am. Looks really cool.

Back in high school, I had a friend who used to paint his sneakers metallic gold and wear 'em to school. It looked like he was wearing giant bronzed baby booties.

No connection to what's being discussed. Just thought I'd share.

I think you should paint the buttons on the PS1 silver.

I need to finish off this ps1 (base and under lid) i want to try out some laquers to see if i can get a more desirable finish. I`m sure i`ll be bored again and paint another ps1, i wanted to do one with the fluid/depth logo and a dolphin (sounds even more tacky).

Painting the buttons is a problem as the symbols on them arent embossed so would be covered over and give it a less original feel.

model paint like the paint that comes in the little tiny bottles? did you airbrush it? or spray paint? seems like it would be too difficult for me to accomplish haha.

The second I saw it I swore this was a joke and actually a faded PS1, guess not. Good job BTW.

Why does everyone have gold spray paint?? not sayin anything bad about it I mean I personally have a bunch of gold systems and controllers with siver buttons and vice versa. oh and I had the same problem with the buttons what i did was just use model paint and a brush takes time but keeps the look

I think your PS1 is missing that needed "bling" that should go with the gold color. adhesive rhinestones (like for cell phones) or some 24in spinners would do the trick.

Gorez i used a spray can it was 100ml i think. i just cleaned the system after i had disassembled it. then painted it, no primer no sanding. if i can do it anyone can.

I`m gonna look for those rhinestones and maybe some rubies and see what i can do!

That painted PS1 looks like one of my SNES machines - Grey and Yellowing!

xyxzyz: are you the one who did the Dark Side job or did you have it done professionally? Either way, it looks great.

Ya know you've inspired me. I'm no pro but I have a SEGA SATURN (with Modchip) that runs great but honestly the black case looks like the original owner would lay everything on top, nothing scrathced but damn MEGA micro scratches! I am thinking just about anything would look nicer.............
I think I need to start thinking what colors would look sharp on a SATURN! :)
