View Full Version : The Official "Help Me Actually Finish Games I Start" Support Thread

A few nights ago I was talking with Kamino and Perkar and came to the realization that many of us have what I affectinately call "video game attention deficit disorder." In other words, we're so in love with the games that we own that we rarely (if ever) finish what we play. Perkar mentioned his goal is to finish 12 titles this year, and currently stands at 5 (very impresssive). I personally haven't finished anything and seen actual credits in probably over 6 months. Between work and spending time with my wife while owning multiple consoles (including all three next gen) my gaming habits are totally out of whack.

I don't see this thread as a place to count the number of games you've finished--that isn't the point. Rather, I want it to be a place that we can support each other to actually finish games we start. I also want to stress that this is not a competition, and any game that you want to complete is welcome for support from the DP community.

How does this works?

I keep track in this intial thread with your name, start date/goal finish date and title you want to complete. When it is done, let me know (PM is fine) and it gets removed and you replace it with the next one. Only one title at a time! If a game does not get finished by the goal complete date--we're going to try to ask you why and get you to finish it! If you don't have a problem finishing what you start, then you don't need this thread. For those that do, we're here to help! Just PM me with what you want added or drop the information into the thread.

**Please put your request in the exact format used below :) **

Who needs support right now?

I think this is a great Idea, I fall into a similar category like you AG, I have a demanding schedule at work and a wife and other family/friend obligations, so finding time to finish games is often tricky. I set a goal for myself this year to finish more games, so far I have finished 4 or 5, I forget, because I don't write these things down..lol, but seriously I think 5 games, I didn't have a numerical goal, just a goal to finish more games this year. I like you're idea and I will be checking here periodically to see how things go.

Thanks for the feedback segagamer. If you want to add a game you're working on to the list, just let me know. :) I'll be damned if I don't finish God of War II before I start Super Paper Mario. I just need some self control and patience.

I've been meaning to finish Azure Dreams for the last decade. I keep picking it up, playing it for like 20 hours, and then I kinda drift to other games before I finish.

It's not because I find the game boring. I love the game. It just gets intimidating when you start getting to the higher levels of the tower. And every time you re-enter the tower, you gotta climb all the way back up.

That is the main game that taunts me, though, that I never finished it. Most RPGs that I put a lot of hours into, I'm able to finish them off.

Snapple, I added you. PM me your start date and goal finish date. We'll get you to the end...it can be done!

I'm going to start small, I already have most of Castlevania SOTN done on the 360 but I can feel myself slipping. I want to have all of the achievements done by the end of April. Sounds kinda simple, I know, but I almost never finish my games, so I should probably start small and work my way up. So I guess that would put my dates as 3/21-4/30. Thanks for doing this!

Adds have been made. Please, remember--if you do NOT have a problem finishing games this is not for you!! My intention is to help out the other guys (mostly adults) who can't finish things for one reason or another. We've got 5 DP'ers right now...a solid start!

Cool idea. I'm currently working on "Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel" on the PS2, which I began on Monday (3-26-07) and am hoping to have completed by mid-late April; so I guess April 30th is a good "get it done by" date.

Oh, and I can totally agree with the gamers ADD. I will pick up a game for about 20 minutes (maybe a few stages) and then put it away and play a different game. Generally the only games that take my attention for longer are online RPGs and RTS. Man, I can go all night with either type of game.

cyberfluxor, I've added Fallout for ya.

Also, if you guys have any recommendations or ideas on how we can better implement this idea feel free to chime in. :)

okay I'm game (get it? game? anyway) I started the GCN version of twilight pricess on 12/27/06, and am only 7 hours into it, I want it done by may.

so here it is: Zelda: Twilight Princess 12/27/06 - 4/30/07

EDIT: it would be a cool idea, when a game permits of course, to include hours or percentage completed either just when you first post, or maybe we can edit our posts on a weekly basis (or daily if you want).

that way we could all know just how far along we all our in our games, that way if someone strays at like 95% complete we can say "c'mon you wuss, you only got 5% more o go :D "

anyway I'm at work, so when I get home and fire up TP I'll let ya all know exactly where I stand.

Ah. Well in Fallout I'm just about to go into the crater and spent 90 minutes up to this point. It may be a little slow but as I've said before I take a lot of games slow and investigate almost everything. It's a bit funny because I've never found Easter Eggs but stumble across a lot of glitches. :D

Since the creation of the 360's Achievement Points, I've questioned what "finishing a game" really means. Just completing a single story mode on GRAW 2 (for instance) really doesn't even scratch the surfact of "finishing". Who really feels they've finished Call of Duty 2 or 3, on anything less than veteran difficulty? God of War 2 on the other hand is the type of game that has a clearer beginning and end.

This is the exact category I fall into as well.

I am setting 3 goals for myself right now.

Hotel Dusk ,DS Finish by 4/15/07 "I'm on Chapter 9 of 10"

Trauma Center, WII Finish by 4/30/07

Splatterhouse , WII VC Finish by 5/15/07

Thanks for giving me the kick in the butt that I needed.

In my opinion, if the credits roll and you're using the default difficulty you've finished the game. The Achievement points and other extras are to prolong the life of a game, but don't need to be included for saying you've finished it.

If I played Call of Duty on my PS3 I wouldn't even have achievements as an option.

I started this game at the beginning of February but have not put much into it as of late but need to get back and try to get through it.

I'm competely terrible about finishing games. Mostly because what I play are really fucking long RPGs and I somehow always get interrupted when playing them. It's hard to pick up a story heavy game after a month or two long interval.

Anyway I finished "Shining Force: Sword of Hajya" earlier this week. It's a really short game and my strategy was to play a battle or two a night until I finished. So was a really easy victory for me.

Now I'm working on "Legend of Mana". The game has no overall storyline to speak above apart from that obligatory "ressurect the mana tree" plot, but it does have short easy to chew senarios. I find I can easily complete a senario or two before bed and before going to work each day. I have hopes in finishing this one.

My goals:

Legend of Mana - 2/6/07 - Dragon Warrior 7 (already aways into it)

I finally beat lost planet on 4/7. Didn't even get to see the ending because once I beat the boss, the disc read error came up on my screen and forced me to eject the disc. I got the achievement for completing the mission though so fuck it. I dont really have any interest in the story.

I guess now I want to beat Rygar for PS2 by the end of this week.

I've made the updates guys. Congrats to finishing SOTN and Lost Planet guys!!! I don't know how I'm going to finish GOW 2 by the end of the week. Time to get a move on I guess. Can anyone confirm if the story actually re-picks up? I haven't seen an interesting cut scene in over 4 hours of play now it seems.

I don't usually finish to many games but am proud to say that I finished Dawn of Sorrow this week, 94% seems satisfactory enough for me :)
