I am trying to play some Pal games on my US snes with this Action Replay 3 that I have. I currently have 5 pal games, and every time I try and play them, I basically get no signal (which is the same as just plugging them in directly to the snes). Regular NTSC games work fine with the Action Replay. Here is how I have it set up:

Do I have it set up correctly? Also, one of the pins for the switch on the side has broken off the PCB. Would that be the cause of the problem?

The way I do it is that I have a newer game (I use R-Type III) in the back and I put the switch on the side. I use mine to play Terranigma which is supposed to have maxium lock out protect.

I'm at work now but when I get home I'll look at what menu options I go through.

Ok, I just started Terranigma. Here is what I did:

I have the switch on the middle position. I turned on the SNES and on the screen where all the options are, I went to the third one down which says " USA / JAP" I changed that one to "EUROP." Then I select the top option, which is in red, to start the game.

As far as I can tell, the switch only has two positions.

I just tried a PAL game with my PAR3. You should get the PAR menu no matter what position the switch is when you power on. Hitting the Start Game button at the top starts the game - I think you only need to click the US/JP button first if the game uses a region check like Terranigma.

Have you tried cleaning all three connectors on the PAR? The one on the back is likely the cause of the problem since you're not getting a signal.

Your picture looks correct, and even though the switch is busted it should still work like it does with NTSC games.

BTW, yes, the switch has 3 positions (down = menu/trainer related IIRC, middle = codes off, up = codes on). Maybe the previous owner replaced it?

I'll have to look into that more. I could likely rig up something for the switch if I had the proper tools. I cleaned the sucker a lot, but yes, I agree that the problem likely lies in the slot on the back. When I got it, it had a piece of chocolate (?) shoved in it. I thought I had it all removed, but yeah, maybe it is still causing problems. None of the pins appear to be broken on the cart slot, so I will have to go through it very carefully.

Wait a sec.... doesn't the SNES support most PAL games unless they have the lockout?

Nope. Some games have a software lockout, and you basically need a PAR code to break it. However, some games do not have this and only need the US cart to bypass the interal lockout chip. I don't think there is a single PAL game that can be played in the US snes without using some sort of bypass method.
