Yeah I kinda get what you mean, also the makers of Earthbound were massive Beatle fans there are heaps of references in Earthbound for snes.
.....can't seem to find the wiki.
BTW for extra trivia the song Helter Skelter was written after
Paul Mccartney read a review for the Who song 'I can see for miles'
because he wanted to make a heavier song than that.

So, is anyone going to explain what the deal is with this thread, or do we just have to guess? :D

I don't know if the makers were Beatle fans, but the makers deserve my sworn loyalty for creating such a PERFECT game. Possibly the greatest platformer ever.

The first few bars of the Final Fantasy I overworld map song are very similar to a Beatles song. The title escapes me -- "please please please" or something like that.

I got it when it was almost brand new, around May 1987. What's interesting is I got my NES in January 1987, just a few months earlier, and was amazed and blown away by Super Mario Bros. However, after playing Alex Kidd, I knew it was superior. It's just that Mario got all the credit. Had the Master System been as big of a hit as the NES, there's no doubt in my mind that Alex Kidd would be as big a household name today as Mario is. Ahh, what could have been...:(

Yeah it's underrated for sure. It's a hard bastard of a game too, Ive never finished it to this day! I can get as far as the part with the speed boat and thats it. The other day i downloaded this video (http://speeddemosarchive.com/AlexKiddMiracleWorld.html) theres one in there of this guy finishing the game in 17 minutes. He does everything perfect, something to watch if you've got nothing to do :D

I don't think it's as good as the Mario bros games though, Miracle world can feel a little cheap in comparison at times. Like how the scissor/paper/rock games are all in the same order or how sometimes late in the game you can walk into the wrong door and be instantly killed by some random bird or water...

Now...

Who has played SNES Yoshi's Island, the makers of this were obviously fans of early 90's Enya. If you listen to the theme music on the map screen it's sounds very very similar to that song Enya did a few years before the game was released...

Yes, it is very hard and challenging, but at the same time, it's not frustraiting. I'll only compare it to the first Mario game, since comparing it to the later Mario's would be a little unfair. I believe it's superior to SMB1. It's more of a challenge first of all. Second, although the paper/scissors/stone can be repetative, the levels are very different, unlike SMB1, where lots of levels look the same. It's graphics are also a bit better, but I guess that's not SMB's fault, it's just that the NES hardware was inferior.

Did you play the other Alex Kidd games? The second, The Lost Stars, wasn't that good, but I did like the third, High Tech World (although some didn't like it). I never played the 4th, Shinobi World. I personally loved the 5th (and sadly, final) one on the Genesis, Enchanted Castle.

I borrowed Yoshi's Island from a friend for a week around a dozen years ago, beat it, returned it to him, and haven't played it since. I don't remember much, except Baby Mario's whine. :)

Edit 1: Oops, I was wrong. The final Alex Kidd was Shinobi World, which came out a year later than Enchanted Castle.

Edit 2: I just watched that video. Wow, he sure was fast, but he could have been even faster. If I remember correctly, you can drop down ladders by pressing one of the buttons. Also, you can use the Cain of Flight to skip fighting Janken. Just equip it as soon as you enter the room, and fly to the top ladder. However, he used the Cain for another short cut, so he might have saided time his way after all. Although the ending was words only and no graphics, boy were those words deep! It totally left open the possibility of sequals, and even mentioned how his father is still missing.

Owned them all back in the day except for the Genesis, cause i never owned one. They were called Mega Drives in the part of the world btw :) Regretably i sold all my Master System games about 5 years ago so i no longer have them. :(

Lost stars was pretty garbage, your correct on that one. Hi tech world wasn't too bad. Come to think of it that was probably the first RPG style game i ever played, a decent play back in the day.

Now, if you havent played Shinobi world thats a tragedy. It's probably regarded as the best Alex Kidd of them all. That was my favourite game on the Master System in fact.

Don't forget the Alex Kidd BMX game!

Miracle World was a bitch...that last castle was super-hard. The final puzzle was a pain in the ass, mostly due to the crappy jumping scheme in the game.
