Well, I have had the PS3 for over a month now. I needed to take care of some bills and just recently sold off my 360. It was a tough choice deciding which system had to go, but I decided to hang onto my PS3 as I have quite a few great PS1 and PS2 titles, as well as some PS3 titles.
Tonight I decided to give the "otherOS" option a whirl. Has anybody tried this yet? I installed Fedora Core, and man, this truly rocks. Turning the PS3 into a full fledged PC is fantastic. I wonder what other Linux distributions are out there that have PS3 compatibility. The possibilities are endless. Wonder if anybody has Mame running? :)

Ahh, formatted again. I see that Yellow Dog Linux is the real way to go..built from the ground up for the PS3. I just love tinkering :)

I was thinking of doing this but then I realized the partition size. It's 50% right?
I dunno, i've already used like 20gb already, and my pc is good for emu.
It's cool no doubt. The open architecture of the ps3 is going to be real handy in the future.
Can you share some benefits of doing this? I will probably do it once I maybe upgrade the hard drive.

Probably not much of a benefit really. Anything that the PS3 with Linux can do, well, surely your PC can do. But, for the novelty of turning the PS3 into a PC, that is pretty cool. I'm sure that this is just the beginning. Open architecture is a really really good thing. Who knows, the PS3 may even replace my PC one day :)
As for the partition scheme, you can either have the PS3 use 10GB and the rest for the other os, OR 10GB for the other os and the rest for the PS3. Hopefully a firmware update will eventually allow us to partition this HD the way we like (like 50/50)
