View Full Version : Who uses their next-gen system primarily for playing the classics?

While looking through my collection earlier today, I realized (not for the first time) exactly how many arcade compilations I have for the PS1 and PS2. I also realized (again, not for the first time) that I spend more time playing those than I do the other games I have. On top of that, I no longer get excited by announcements for the latest titles, but news of a new arcade or console comp has my undivided attention (that reminds me, I still need to pick up the Sega Genesis Collection).

So who here would say they use their modern consoles primarily for classic gaming? I don't think I'm alone... am I?

On a side note, I also feel that if I had a Wii or a 360, I'd probably spend more time with the VC or XBLA than with the "actual" games.

I don't do this so much with my Wii or my DS (although I've got my fair share of virtual console games, I mostly play Zelda, Elebits, or Metroid Prime 2 on the Wii) my PS2 seems to have no other purpose other than to play arcade comps, PS1 games, Ico and Shadow of the Colossus, and Katamari Damacy. I never really bought a whole lot of new PS2 games, although there were some really great ones (Y's VI for example--never finished it...I'm ashamed of that, actually).

My friend brings over stuff like Mafia and God of War and I'm just not that impressed with it. But I have tons of fun playing the Capcom Classics Collection or Taito Legends.

If it counts, my PSP is used quite a bit for that kinda stuff. In fact, 4 of my 6 games for that are arcade classics.

-Midway Arcade Treasues: Extended Play.
-Namco Museum: Battle Collection.
-Capcom Classics Collection Remix.
-Street Fighter Alpha 3 Max.
