View Full Version : Is it wrong to like PSP more than the DS?

I don't know, I just recently sold my DS Lite for a PSP. Why? Maybe it's the fact that the library of games impresses me more so than DS.

I hate to even say this, but I didn't even like New Super Mario Bros. It had a great presentation but I couldn't get into it and couldn't figure out why. I think I could blame Mario Sunshine for my disliking of the current Mario games. I really haven't enjoyed a Mario game since the GBA re-releases.

I have mad respect for people who love the DS, it's a nice system. I'm just a clean freak and when I have to keep touching the screen to move around, I end up cleaning the screen more so than enjoying the actual game, since I like to keep my stuff as mint as possible. Which is just plain sad for me.

PSP on the other hand, I can enjoy almost every Capcom game I ever loved on 1 little system. Which is pretty nice, but the day they put a Resident Evil game on PSP, that will be the icing on the cake for me. Wait a minute, can't you with the PS Network via the PS3. Yeah you can, you can play RE Director's Cut from PS1 via a downlaod....well damn..nvm then...I gotta check that out for sure if it's already available in the North American PS3.

Anyways, with Konami's lineup being CastleVania, Silent Hill, and the three Metal Gear games..I'm pretty happy with the system.

Yet back to the DS, I like the CastleVania games on there, but I am starting to get burnt out on the Metroidvania clones...so when I heard the real Drac X was coming, I will welcome it like discovering the "Lost city of Cheese". I hope you like cheese too, because it's the only food in this world that never gets turned down, unless you're lactose intolerant, which I apologise for in advance.

Even with all the firmware features and the ability to downgrade or upgrade. It just feels like I almost paid for a PDA without touching the screen like when a kid touches the glass counter at the place you work at and smears his snot on it...then you end up cleaning it afterwards...which really sucks.

My only beef is the price of the system and it's memory cards, but the price of the games isn't too shabby lately. Especially compared to DS's $29.99 and $34.99 prices.

Sure PSP games show up at $40 and $50 new at times, but I notice they drop down quicker to $30 after 5 to 6 months and especially watching the Sunday flyers helps alot.

I want to find a carrying case for my PSP or something to just place it away safely after the day, because that sleeve doesn't feel safe to me.

I have both systems and I play PSP more. I think, for me, it's because I never played a lot of PS2 games that are being rereleased on it so they're new to me. The graphics and sounds are much better on PSP compared to DS but there are some games like sudoku that I love playing on the DS and really despise on PSP. Just depends upon the game.

There's nothing wrong with you. It's just that people, for whatever reason, always feel they must pick sides in the cosole wars. I'm a console whore so no problems for me :)

Who gives a damn. Certainly not us who have zero problems owning both and playing both.

Anyyone is free to like and play what they want. So if someone likes one better than the other, nothing's stopping them from playing that system exclusively. Enjoy.

As for me, I freely interchange between the two playing the choicest of titles for each. And what... :)

Is it wrong for me to like Quaker Maple and Brown Sugar instant oatmeal better than that new Crunch shit they have out now?

OHMYGOD YOUR LOOSER!

Kidding. If the PSP had more games to my liking, I'm sure I'd have both.

I love the DS myself, but I totally agree with you on the clean freak thing. I'm always pausing my game to continually clean off the screen.

The whole touch the screen with your thumb or finger in New Super Mario Bros for the stored item and the various other times I end up touching the screen is rough.

How does touching the screen with the stylus make it dirty? I'm pretty sure mine still looks freakin great, and I play my DS every day.

I actually have the opposite problem - I'm always smudging up my PSP and I remember one terrible airplane trip during which I spent about an hour playing and three hours trying to get my screen to the point where I didn't want to obsessively re-arrange smudges. Which is probably why I've never finished Magna Carta PSP. (though it's amazingly beautiful game)

That said, I enjoy both systems but I find the DS more convenient for 'short-burst' portable gaming because I don't panic at the thought of just dumping it in my pocket and going back to work.

PSP memory cards are getting cheaper. Unless you're copying your hard drive onto one, I'm not sure why you'd need more than a 2 gig, which can be found on sale for about $50.

I also find my PSP gets "dirty" far more often than my DS. The plastic gets all smudgey and greasy.

I think with the DS you just have to buy one system to actually play on, and accept the fact that the touch screen will suffer some wear. Meteos did a number on mine, but you can't see the wear during play so whatever.

Hehe kidding. As mentioned above, do what you want to do :)

To be honest, I own them both, and both are good systems.

Games I'm looking forward to:
DS-
-Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow.
-Konami Classics.
-New Super Mario Bros.

PSP-
-Castlevania: Dracula X Chronicles.*
-God of War.*
-Mortal Kombat Deception-Unchained.
-Taito Legends.

*-Coming soon.

Well now that really depends partner!

Are you ok with throat babies not liking you because you buy something that you enjoy and makes you happy ?

Don't ever let anyone make you feel like you should buy something because they like it, thats being a comformist and not yourself and if they ever give you slack you give them a sharp "f$% you c^nt".

My PSP gets at least double the play time of my DS. I appreciate the more mature games on the PSP (i.e. Field Commander over Advance Wars), as well as the drastically superior sound of the PSP. All the great homebrew games and apps for the PSP make the choice even easier. I just wish that Sony had made a more powerful battery that could last more than a few hours. Oh, did I mention that PSX emulation is one of the greatest things ever, because it is. Long live the PSP.

That reminds me, I should get my PSP charger back. Haven't touched the damn thing in like 2 months because I don't have my charger...

It's never wrong to like one system more than another, as long as you make sure of the following:

1) Always respect your fellow gamers' personal choice of system, even if you don't care for it yourself. In other words, don't be one of those loud, obnoxious console fanboys like the ones that hang out on the GameFAQs message boards.

2) Never allow the system that you like more than another to be the game.com, for there are no systems worse than it. ;)

Seriously, the PSP and DS are both capable systems and both have games worth playing (I've been playing Gurumin and Puzzle Quest for the PSP and Izuna: Legend of the Unemployed Ninja for the DS, and have enjoyed all of them so far). Even if you only choose to own one, there's still plenty of games to play no matter which one you pick.

I've been wondering about this game. I've played Untold Legends which is also a hack-n-slash. Have you played that and, if so, is DS a better game on the PSP?

There's nothing wrong with preferring the psp over ds. The only advantage the ds has is a compact clam shell design so you can play it on the go.

Never played Untold Legends, I picked up DS cheap at Circuit City about 2 weeks ago, it was on sale for $9.99. Id say give it a try if they are still on sale..

I've been the same way recently as well. I used to like the DS better, but lately with GTA:VCS and Ratchet and Clank, I've been enjoying the PSP more. I'm looking forward to picking up Puzzle Quest, Daxter, Syphon Filter, and SOCOM 2 for the slow times at work during the summer.

It is not wrong to enjoy the psp more then the ds.

You are supposed to play the games that you enjoy. If a system has more games that you like, you are supposed to like that system more. Outside of owning a game system out of collecting games is for playing games that you think are fun to play.

So true.

PSP is a great console, as is the DS. For the games, the PSP has very good ones (depending of your taste) : Generation of Chaos, Valkyrie Profile, Mega Man Powered Up, Popolocrois, Legend of Heroes trilogy. And the DS too : the 2 Castlevanias, Rocket Slime, Super Mario Bros, Lost Magic, Trauma Center.

The DS has innovative games, and the PSP has more "regular" games and emulation, so go with what you like ! For me, the PSP has now a lot of play time, more than the DS, and I played more the DS last year. It will surely change to one side or another, depending of the games that will be offered.

It is not wrong to love the PSP :)

It's all good, do what entertains you more. If the price is right jump on the wagon. I'm still waiting for the prices to fall further because I can't fork out money for more than 1 current system, or maybe it's the classic gamer inside me. ;)

PS1 Diablo > PC Diablo IMO.
They just added more features and made the controls work REAL well. If only they could have stuck the unofficial expansion in there too.
