Words that you may have said or words that may have crossed your mind back in the day. Remember how some of the best old-school games had alternating two player support? Some games were really bad with it. Player 2 wouldn't get a turn until Player 1 died. Super Mario Bros. springs to mind when I think of this. Now if your big brother was really good at SMB, it'd probably be around World 8-1 where he'd die. You, as Luigi have to start all the way back at World 1-1. How many times did we come up ways to make the other player die? Remember the "secret in a random pit" that people would pull? I think I got owned a few times myself with that one.

Waiting forever to get your turn was probably very annoying back then, but when I look back on it and think of how we'd come up with ways to make someone die, or we'd fall or a similar trick, it really makes me laugh.

my neigbor used to play 2 player smb with me, one day we played I had never been able to beat 8-4, on my first life I was able to get all the way up to 8-4 with firey mario and beat the game before he even got his first turn, he was pretty anoyed, but it was the first time we ever saw the ending.

I love all of those tricks and I still use them. I use the Advantage when I play SMB so my sisters favorite trick is while i'm concentrating to turn up the turbo. It annoys the hell out of me!

That is great AND hilarious!! I still can't beat SMB without dying even if I do use warps.

"Can I have a turn?"

"Yeah, when I die"

"You don't die in Tetris!"

I was in the minority of gamers. I could care less when my turn came, so long as I knew it was coming and not like the arcade or store was closing in the next 5 minutes... I remember all the kids 5-6 deep at various games, it was like Shaq boxing out in the paint to get a decent view of what was happening. I especially remember it was the way I saw the Dragon's Lair ending for the 1st time. Back to back, the 2 guys playing it before me finished it. I remember palying Pinbot pinball and scoring I forget how many points. The guys around me were trying to distract me. It would be like Caddyshack and you were trying to putt and your buddy is shouting "Noonan" in your face, that, or bumping the table or slapping your hand or a button, etc. Yes, it did occasionally spawn some gratuitous violence in the form of dead legs or sunburns or the like. I miss that whole scene, I doubt it would be like it was, it seems the majority of gaming is now computer or console oriented. I live in an area with all the good signs for business and we only have one arcade and it is half skeeball and half crap. Few options out their for me and my surrounding gamers. Occasionally I hit Nathan's and they have a few decent games.

Sidenote: Arcades long since dwindled and a I went out with a few buddies and ended up playing Wrestlefest with a "dancer" at a "gentleman's club". I would have rather wrestled her, however the bouncers neck was bigger than my thigh and I'm not a small guy. Either way it was a good time.

That thought still pops into my head everytime I go to the arcade.

Not really with friends but...

Way back when Sam's Club had a Genesis hooked up to a TV to "demo" except it wasn't on one of those reset timers, just a normal system. This one particular time they had "Quackshot" in and played the game the whole time my parents were there shopping.

4chan has threads like this sometimes. People will just post screenshots of classic 2-player games with the appropriate shouted remarks.

"YOU ASSHOLE I NEEDED THE PIZZA! WHY DID YOU TAKE THE PIZZA? YOU HAD FULL HEALTH DAMMIT!"

"STOP THROWING ME YOU CHEAP SON OF A BITCH"

"CAN'T YOU PLAY AS ANYONE BESIDES CABLE, YOU ASSHOLE?"

my buddy and i recently got into bubble bobble. we beat the first one, and then beat the super mode. so then we popped in #2, and were very disappointed to find they had changed the 2 player mode. instead of cooperative, it is turn based, like smb. what's with that?

A friend of mine used to be into gaming...for maybe a year, back in the Super Nintendo days. He always (half-jokingly) said that he could only last for about 8 seconds in the Mario games. I remember when I first got Super Metroid and I brought it over and let him go first. When the statue came to life and started towards him, he handed me the controller and said "Your turn!"

There were only a few games where those words crossed my mind.

-Konami's X-Men. (There was always some dickhead who hogged Wolverine, my best X-Man.)
-Soul Calibur II.
-Street Fighter III.

thats why tekken(Lei) Mortal kombat(Scorpion) and Soul caliber(Voldo) just sit on my shelf. Just can't find anyone who wants to play with me. (quietly sobs in corner slowly turning into a blubbering mess)

You guys should try having a roommate who only has an xbox and a ps2, and everytime you buy a game, you play it for like 10 minutes, go to work, and then come home and they are balls deep in the game.

That happened to me when I got Scarface for my b-day. I played it for like 10 minutes, and then I had to go to work. Apparently, my roommate thought it would be cool to play it for 10 hours straight. Now I am a nice guy with a decent collection, so I "normally" have the mindset of "Hey, I have all these games, as long as they are getting enjoyed, somebody might as well play them".

Little did I realize that people only want to play the games that I am currently playing. I still have only played scarface for like 4 or 5 hours altogether, hahaha.

Lucky for me, my roommates PS2 broke and now I have free reign to play all of my ps2 games without him bugging me to let him play one of my games, hahahahaha.

I had a similar incident with Mortal Kombat: Armageddon in which my roommate woke me up one morning playing my game. Needless to say I traded the opened copy and got a sealed on at Black Friday. I told him not to open it and if he did so he would owe me 59.99, but what he didn't know is that the game hardly retailed for even that....Good times.
