Why is the box so rare? The game seems fairly easy to find.

This is getting mega high, i guess some people really wanna complete their complete US collection.

Ye, its wierd that the box is so damn rare. The game itself is very easy to get. You would think that more people actually kept the box.

What's nuts is I bought the last one on eBay in better shape WITH a manual for $275 less than 6 months ago.
It's one of the first thrid party released games for the NES. This one IS that tough to find.

I wonder if wrldstrman is gonna win it, I know he needs the box.
Its the last box I need. but even I wont pay that price.Im sure after this auction ends some will show up. Plus there are only 3 to 4 guys I know that are willing to throw that kind of cash around after they get a copy hopefully the box will settle back to around 50.00 dollars

I know of at least 7 people on the nintendo forums (myself included) who will pay triple figures. I wont pay THIS much but I would pay a price similar to what the dkazz one hit. I dont see this box going below $200 ever, but I also dont see it hitting astronomical prices such as this auction (which will still get more bids as I can virtually guarantee braveheart will win it).

It has gone a lot higher than I expected. I originally threw in a $310 bid thinking it wouldn't reach that high because 1. The last was mint and sold for less and 2. This isn't even complete. However, seems that it has risen far beyond what I was expecting. I plan to win even if braveheart throws his bid in ;) Gonna be a tough call on who gets it.

Hounder: whatever happened to this Stadium Events box you were supposed to be auctioning off in March?

My original question: Why is this box so rare when the game is not?
Couldnt tell you exactally why but there are several boxes that are super hard to find for the nes. sqoon the cart comes up a lot but the box is almost as hard to find as chubby cherub

My original question: Why is this box so rare when the game is not?
early release that had only one production run, so greater box attrition. Later releases/production runs typically seem to have less attrition. (ie people keep their boxes today much more so than in the 2600 days as an example). Sqoon is exactly the same situation. Early game, one production run, no later-date reprinting of the box.

Bronty: The only reason people keep their boxes these days is because it just makes more sense to place your games on shelves in the stored CD/DVD cases.
Eventually it will be harder to find N64 boxes (maybe nowhere near as much as it is to find Game Boy and Atari 2600 ones) but it will happen.

I go as far as to say you'll find over time finding complete DVD/CD games will be hard...it's amazing how many people want to store these in CD books and trash the cases.

Almost all the modern games have cases when they are traded in. Go to any store that sells used N64 and PS1. What % of ps1 games have original cases verses N64 games with boxes? Its not even close.
I'd say I get 1 N64 box for every 80 or 100 N64 games and if I get 100 PS1 games traded in well less than 10 will be missing the original cases.

udisi: I seriously doubt it, it's like saying most people throw away their CD cases for music CDs, it might happen but not every often. It's exactly why Genesis stuff and Master System stuff is much easier to find, just because it could be kept in its keepsake case....

I'm sorry, but I can't understand how that piece of shit game is getting such a high price. I know it's the box, but goddamnit, that thing is worth even LESS than Super Mario / Duck Hunt!

The only ones who have been disposing of cases in high volume are the corporate second hand retailers (ie GSEB, Game Krazy). They do it to save space. SMS games have a high likelyhood to be in their case as they were never in the Funco buyback system. Genesis had gone through the wringer and thus has a lower likelyhood to be in its case. Games Crazy (in Detroit area) dispose of all jewel cases for PS1 and Dreamcast and place them in sleeves.
Insanity! Chubby Cherub box is outrageous! It is such terrible game :puke:
There have to be more boxes out there. I had seen the box at every rental store when I was young.

I was gonna bring up the point of the major national retailers disposing of original cases. GS/EB/etc have rutinely disposed of cases, they also took in caseless games. It may not be as bad as say NES or any cartridge system, but I don't think in the future CD/DVD games will be all that easy to find complete just because of the retail juggernauts.

I never go by major retailers. I go by eBay basically.
If it's plentiful on eBay, then they aren't tough to find. Game Crazy, which is small, is not going to change the market for throwing away PS1 cases....

Someone made a side deal with him off ebay. It was neither me nor braveheart that won this auction or got the box. I know who the person was though and won't say unless they want it to be public knowledge.

What would be the point of ending the auction early to sell it on the side for LESS then what bidding was already up to?

exactly. What makes you guys think he/she sold it for less?

Not sure if you guys noticed, but the highest bidder (hounder) and the 3rd highest bidder (NGD) both retracted their bids. this meant that braveheart (the 2nd highest bidder) was now the highest bidder. it also bumped the auction all the way down to $70 or so. the person who pulled the side deal basically raped the seller into thinking those were fraud bids (and they were not).
