Here's how to tell if the game is indeed new, and not re-sealed by a store or a dishonest seller. A factory sealed box has a vertical seam going down the middle of it. That is the official nintendo seal, and every first party game will have it. MOST 3rd party games will also have it. It looks like this:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=270106945331&indexURL=1&photoDisplayType=2#ebayphotohosting

The shrink wrap will also have small ventilation holes in the front, usually in a neat vertical row, but sometimes just randomly in the front.

The shrink wrap will also be fairly tight, with no discolored seams.

Another possibility is, instead of the seam, there will be an inch-wide vertical band going up the back of the box. That also seems to be a factory method of sealing the games.

There IS a possibility that some N64 games didn't have a vertical seam, depending on the machine that did the sealing and its calibration, but I would stay away from those because you'd never know unless you opened them. And if you opened them, and they turned out to be new, you'd be kicking yourself. Kinda like factory defects, while technically still new, you would be better off getting an authentic one, where you truly know that it hasn't been tampered with.

The reason why this information is somewhat vague is because there is no data about this anywhere on the internet. I tired searching many times, and couldn't find anything else. If any of you know more, please share.

Btw, factory sealed games with the vertical seam can be a gold mine on ebay.
Goldeneye will go for 75-100, ocarina of time for 75-100, and killer instinct gold went for 197 a week ago. Pilotwings, wave race, mario 64, smash brothers, etc, are all worth a good amount. Just don't sell any perfect darks. Ebay is saturated with them, for 5 dollars a game.

Anyway, I hope this helps somebody, and actually have a question of my own. Have you guys seen any shops selling these new games? Any places online, like www.gamequestdirect.com, that specialize in them? I need a few to add to my collection, and these rare games almost never come up on ebay.

Rush 2, Rush 2049, Duke Nukem 64, Mortal Kombat 4, and Virtual Pool are my top 5 wanted games. Those aren't even on ebay, and if they are, they aren't factory sealed.

Btw, SNES also had the vertical seam on the back of the game boxes.

I have the factory sealed blockbuster Iss Soccer with the inch wide seal on the back. The reason I say this is do we know if certain games game in certain sealings?
