Hey everyone im sure you all have heard about the custom firmwares and ISO launchers for the psp (3.03 and down). I have been experimenting alot with this. I find the Dark Alex CFW very useful. If you have any ideas or know of any other CFW's or mods please post. I also know quite a bit about this subject so if you have any questions??? just ask. Thanks

Ryan's being unusually coy. He's one of my guys at the store and truthfully if it weren't for him I would have never dabbled in mods of any sort. Instead, our store is becoming a bastion and meeting place for people who like to customize their stuff.
Support this guy please :)

I definitely have a question for you. I just found an unpatched copy of GTA:LCS with the 2.00 update. I just bought a PSP and it's a firmware 2.82. How exactly do I get to the 3.03 OE-C firmware? I hear it's the best because you can run emulators AND play all the official games. I only emulate what I own, no piracy here. I would just like to know how to do it because I'm afraid of bricking my PSP.

Thanks Joe. Just to let you know with that white psp I just got today after 2 hours I finally got it at 3.10 OE-A'. The fact that the psp was made in Taiwan had alot to do with it. Ill explain more on Friday.

Okay i would be more than happy to help you with your question. If you have GTA unpatched then your all set. What you have to do is First: upgrade your psp to US firmware 3.03. You can get that update here-http://www.psp-hacks.com/file/958. After you have upgraded your psp to firmware 3.03 then you must downgrade your 3.03 to 1.5 using GTA (UNPATCHED) and a program which you can find here-http://www.psp-hacks.com/file/1034 After downgrading to 1.5 you then need to update to 3.03 OE (CFW) which you can find here-http://www.psp-hacks.com/file/1030 If you have any questions or you dont understand something in my directions you can ask me no problem! As long as you follow these directions exactly you are not in any threat of bricking your psp. P.S. Gta is only used to downgrade 3.03-1.50.

If your copy of GTA has the 2.00 update, it's patched, AFAIK.
Just FYI.

I thought that the version with the 2.60 update was the "patched"version and that the one with the 2.00 update is what I need, correct?

This is correct. I got GTA: LCS as a gift when I got my PSP a year ago, and it was the original, 2.0 version, as at that time I upgraded my PSP from 1.52 to 2.0.
I've considered selling my copy, but I'm still a collector and I'm not sure I can part with it :)
Back to the original topic, there *is* another custom firmware out there, called "Custom Firmware 1.62 IE." Personally I'd rather stick with the DA firmwares, but you asked so I answered.
I've heard DA will be releasing 3.30 OE-A sometime over the weekend as well. 3.30 has some better movie playback updates to it, so I imagine it'll be a popular one!
To be honest the homebrew side of the PSP has been *really* slow lately. I haven't even touched my PSP in like 2 weeks (the first time I've gone that long since I got the thing in Dec of 05).

Yes. I had a 2.0 version and that's what I used. Reports of a 2.6 'patched' version were confirmed not long after news of the possibility hit the web.
PROTIP: For safety's sake, try running an emulator or something first, before trying the downgrade stuff.

Yeah, I tried some emulators such as DGEN and the Neogeo CD one but no go so I guess I'm gonna give this a try. I love playing the released games but being able to play emus at the same time is very tempting.

You're right. D'oh. I got it backwards. I thought that was a 1.50 game originally.
Oops.

The GTA with the 2.00 is the unpatched version. Any other version of GTA is patched with the Xploit removed! DA 3.30 is coming out soon like 2-3 days form now. Who ever said that psp emulation is going a little slow you are wrong. PSP emulation is one of the highest handheld consoles that deals with emulation. Check out www.psp-hacks.com and im sure this will change your mind.

Got a question. i downgraded and upon restart i got a screen about the network config corrupted so I hit X to get to the NetConfigBackup application but the screen goes black and I can't see anything. The screen will blink sometimes and i can see a meesage about the need to update before restarting. Any ideas? I might add that the screen will come on after a few minutes of inactivity so the screen saver functions seem to have been reversed I guess?
RyanMurf
04-05-2007, 12:44 PM
Okay. when you downgrade your psp and when it prompted you to restart you got a blue screen correct? this blue screen happens every time you downgrade to 1.5. After you see the blue screen just press circle. then format your memory stick and continue with the job. You don't need to install any updates that pertain to your network.

04-05-2007, 12:56 PM
EDIT: yes, i got the blue screen and hit X and then O. It is then when the screen just went black but the system functions?!
OK, I can get to see the screen if I plug the power in and unplug it. The screen is still dim but at least i can see. I clicked the last link you had to the 3.03 OE firmware but it points to the downgrader. Is that correct?
It is now at 1.5 firmware

RyanMurf
04-05-2007, 01:04 PM
No, you can jump to 3.03 OE-C with out any problems. J/W did you have a mobo that needed to be patched

Yes, I did. i had to do the patching so maybe that's what caused the screen thing. I hope I can get that fixed with updating but i'm afraid I might have screwed this thing up.
RyanMurf
04-05-2007, 01:07 PM
did you have a motherboard that needed to be patched during the downgrade process. If you did thats the reason for why your backlight gets reset everytime you restart. But this is not a problem it always happens with patched MOBOS. You didnt mess anything up. My psp is just like that its totaly normal.
RyanMurf
04-05-2007, 01:09 PM
No it is okay that you backlight is restarting. Its normal with patched psp's. Mines the same way.

In the readme instructions for 3.03 OE-C, it says:
- Copy oeupdmaker and oeupdmaker% to /PSP/GAME if you are in 1.50, or to /PSP/GAME150 if you are in
2.71 SE, 3.02 OE or 3.03 OE. Copy also the 1.50 and 3.03 updaters with the names 150.PBP and 303.PBP.
Does this mean the 1.5 firmward update from before and I need to download the 3.03 official firmware as well?
RyanMurf
04-05-2007, 01:16 PM
(Copy oeupdmaker and oeupdmaker% to /PSP/GAME ) Now you have downloaded the updates for 1.5 and 3.03 from psp-hacks.com Then what you do is drag both updates into the OEUPDMAKER folder and once they are there rename them with the names 150.pbp and 303.pbp then start up the program. If you have a sony memory stick the process of creating the DXAR file will be pretty liong like 30-45 minutes. But if you have any other brand memory stick (128MB) or over then use the other brand becuase Sony memory sticks take much longer to do the JOB.
RyanMurf

make sure you rename the actual EBOOT.PBP file of the update
RyanMurf
04-05-2007, 01:19 PM
You should already have the 3.03 official sony update fromw hen you nhad to update your psp to 3.03

geneshifter
04-05-2007, 01:32 PM

did u try using the backlight buttons on the psp. and does it work ok in the 3.03 kernel?
geneshifter
04-05-2007, 02:50 PM
Yeah, it works perfectly in 3.03 - no problems with actual UMD games. I only have the problem in 1.5 mode trying to run emulators or homebrew. Where are the backlight buttons?
RyanMurf
04-05-2007, 02:52 PM
OK im almost positive this will fix the problem on the bottom of you psp you have these buttons Home-volume+volume then on the other side of the psp theres a button that is oval shaped click that button.

I have a question too, at the risk of sounding like a total n00b, of course. I have a 2.80 FW. Where do I need to start to get a CFW installed? I started googling around but I don't feel like I can trust any of these sites as far as I can throw them.
Thanks in advance.

If you got to the first page of the thread there are instructions. Follow them exactly and you will be all set.i also have all of the sites listed there. they are trusted sites that i have used. You will need an unpatched version of GTA liberty city stories. You know if it is unpatched if it has a 2.00 update
