could someone tell me what is required to used a 32x on a genesis I or II. The salvation army has a 32x with like half of the original box. I believe it has all of the cords (like 2 long cords and a short one), except the plastic spacer for the genesis II (which i think is just for aesthetics) and it doesn't have those weird paper clip pieces of metal (i think they're called the elctromagnetic shields.)

They are selling it for 9.99 and i don't have one yet. Will it work with either a genesis I or II with/without those parts? and is it worth $10? considering in 94/95 it was like 160 and since i havent found one before i think it should be worth it.

also i've heard the 32x or cdx ruins your genesis? what is the truth to that?

If I remember correctly all that is necessary is a power supply and the cable used to bridge between the 32x and Genesis. This is the must elusive part. It has a male mini-Din connector on each end. In other words, it will look a bit like an S-video cable, but not identical. If it is missing this it is still possible to make your own.

As long as you have the right cords to connect, you should not have a problem. You should have an ac/adapter(Plug) and the av/in,av/out plug. Just make sure all the wires are connected to the right places and that none of the wires have any damaged prongs inside. When I was young I had a 32x hooked to a Genesis 1 model and it worked...so I am sure either model will work as long as you have the right wires.....cherish the wires my friend...they are hard to come by!!!!

This link tells you what you need for each model of the Genesis.

http://www94.pair.com/jsoper/gen_32x_hookup.html

In short, there is an additional wire that is required if you are hooking up the 32X to the Genesis 1. However, the 32X you found may already have that wire. This wire I am referring to is not required when hooking it up to the Genesis 2, though.

As for the plastic spacers, most sources say that they provide a better connection when hooking the 32X up to a Genesis 2. You don't need them for a Genesis 1, though.

So each version of the Genesis uses a special piece that you need for that particular model. I assume you can hook up the 32X to a Genesis 2 without the plastic spacers. I've never tried it, though, so I'm not certain how well it stays connected. It may wiggle and be a little bit loose meaning that you might not get the game to come up on your tv or if you are in the middle of playing, it might cut out. That's the worst that could happen, I s'pose.

I didn't understand your last question all that well, so this is what I think you were asking. The 32X should work on your CDX and that link I gave you confirms it. However, I wouldn't bother using a 32X on a fairly expensive item like the CDX when you may as well use it on a regular Genesis.

For $10, though, you SHOULD buy it whether it comes with all of the pieces or not. That should answer your question. Buy it before someone else does, if you haven't already.
