I have a ps2 test unit and was wondering how much it was worth and the best place to sell it :help:

handofg0d

Well it depends on what unit you have.

i'd say no less than $200 no matter what model you have.

I've picked 'em up on ebay for less then $80... it REALLY depends on what model it is. The DTL-H10000 is virtually worthless.

DTL-H3000X - There are 2 kinds of these, one works with the hard drive, one doesn't. The only way to tell the difference is by trying it out.

Prices have been dropping like a stone over the last year, I've seen a number of them sell at around $150. But like handofg0d said, it all depends on the model.

For me the model doesn't really matter, as long as it says "Test" on it and works well. I have a few kiosk demos I want to play that can't be played on the regular PS2. I'm not really trying to spend more than $50 shipped at the most. However, if they are going for way more than that I might have to reconsider.

ProgrammingAce

Most TEST ps2 have been driven hard and put away wet... they tend to be less reliable then the comparable retail model.

Kiosk discs are retail. They should work in a normal PS2. A TEST isn't anything like a modded PS2, it won't play burned discs unless they've been signed with the gold master boot code.

I have a feeling TEST ps2 are going to level out at $100-150 for the next few years, just like debug PS1 have stayed at $50.

There are currently two (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=260195806972) of them (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=220187306967) on eBay, though one of them is a debug unit but doesn't have 'TEST' written on it.

The seller told me :

It's Region Free
Plays all CD-r
Plays all DVD-r patched as master disc
Does not play Dvd-Video

You're right Ace, I worded that wrong. They aren't kiosk demos--they are trade show demos. Not the trade show demos that come in the white sleeves and say trade show demo on the front. These are from actually trade shows like E3. One is from E3 and one is from a Gamer's Day show(not sure if thats an actual "trade" show though). Both are on a DVD-R purple bottom disc. But the front of each disc is a picture, just like normal game disc. For some reason this site still doesn't let me upload pictures when I click on the insert image link. But if anyone wants pictures of these disc--send me your email address and I'll forward them to you.

I believe I sold you the Gamer's Day Demo.
(as far as a trade show.. dunno myself either.. all the information I could get on it is that it's a pre-party to E3(?)
Me and my friend played it on a PS2 with HDD loader. It worked. Maybe you should try those with that?

Just a Suggestion. But, if you want to go with the test. Those should work with it too.
Or so I hear.

That's normal. One point of clarification, when he says it plays CD-R, he means PS1 discs. PS2 CD-Rom games still need to be master patched.

fuqi:
The only differences between the standard TEST units and the ones with the "S" at the end of the model number are:

- Don't say "TEST" on the case
- You can't attach a debugger to a running application

Neither of which are a big deal to 99.999% of the population. If you're not writing code, you won't care about debugging processes.

Make sure you know what you're doing before you buy a PAL unit to run in the US. Unless the model number ends in a "U" you're going to need a step up converter for power.

You're probably going to want to use a TV that handles a PAL signal, because all of the menus are going to be messed up on NTSC. Any disc that's bymodal (supports both NTSC and PAL) will default to PAL and you'll have to reburn it with a modified sys file. It's not a huge deal, but it becomes a pain in the ass for some discs.

The 1 2 P
02-26-2008, 11:36 PM
What region is your model from GRFC2007? Is it a US, Japanese or PAL model?

Since the model number ends in a 2, then it's a PAL unit. Hence my warning.

Also, this model will most likely not support the official hard drive.

The model number tells you everything you need to know. It's a PAL unit that takes 220V power, supports remote debugging, has a firewire port, and (you can safely assume) doesn't support a hard drive in an official capacity.

Get HD loader and a flip top lid and ALL games support it, in that you can load
all retail games to hard drive for quick selection as well as slightly faster loading times.................

Anything that will play on a TEST plays easier on a modded retail... Don't even think about trying to get homebrew to run on a TEST unless you're prepared to setup the complete SDK, compile and burn the disc using Sony's official gimped software. You'll need a special burner too...

Neither, it's called a TOOL. It's about 3 feet tall and weighs 40 pounds. It's a PC with a built in PS2. It's the actual PS2 development box. The TESTs are just debugging stations used for playing burns.
