Hey all!!

I was playing Ready 2 Rumble Boxing 2 on the Dreamcast yesterday with my dad (who loves that game). I found a true Easter Egg! Since it was Easter, the floor of the ring had Happy Easter written out and a decorated Easter egg on it! I was amazed to see that! I guess the dates are programmed in and maybe there are other holidays surprises in there... I have to test it out.
Just thought you'd all like to know...

they do that sort of thing with a lot of games.. just modify the system clock to a holiday and see what comes up

some games even go by time, and you can change the system clock time and the same time appeares in the background

Thats what I loved about the dreamcast- for whatever reason, developers seemed to put that little extra bit of "ooomph" into the games, making you feel special while you played them.

Yeah I believe it has something for Haloween and Xmas too, I could be mistaken.

That's seems like a cool bonus. I'll have to check it out.

That is similar to Simpson's Road Rage for GC.

If your system clock is set to a certain day, you will be able to use special characters.

alot of Saturn games were like that... that's when Sega first started doing it

Didn't Seaman have a similar thing where the narrator would chastise you for playing on a holiday?

I don't know about the sequel, but the first Ready 2 Rumble has a pretty cool surprise for Halloween. I've never played it on Christmas or other holidays,
I'll have to check it out.

That's kind of odd considering easter is one of those floating hollidays. There isn't really a mathmatical formula you can use to deturmine easter on a given year. Bit odd that the devs would manually program easter half a decade into the future.

Yeah, that's what I thought! Also...
I didn't even think that my clock was set correctly since the VMU battery has been dead for years!
Not everyone even celebrates that holiday! It is surprising they would go through the trouble.

Funny thing is that I only popped that game in because my parents were visiting for Easter and my dad loves that game. I have not played it since the last holiday they visited (mother's day), but I don't remember any "eggs" for that one.

Animal Crossing is famous for doing this as well, but that is one of the obvious ones.

Yeah. I was working on a little bit of code for my company's website and trying to hash out Thanksgiving. Then I remembered Easter was right around the corner and I figured it would use similar code. Then I discovered that Easter is based off phases of the moon and stuff.

So, I just found a list of the dates of Easter for the next 8 years (as well as Thanksgiving and President's Day) and coded them in. I got done a lot faster. If I'm still here maintaining the programs 8 years from now, I'll worry about it then.

:D
