Although the original link has now been changed from the Red Octane website, it has already spread all over the net.
Even though I've only owned number 2 for a week I can't wait for the 3rd. Here's hoping for more of the same.

Does anyone know what happened to the supposed Guitar Hero 80's edition? Has it been cancelled or will it simply be released as GHIII?

i hate this fad the most. DDR at least gave you excercise. this 'game' is absolutely worthless, its like playing DDR with a gamepad. ok you can hit the green and red buttons really quickly, youre amazing... buy a real guitar for fucks sake and learn to play that.

It's a tad more complex than hitting the green and red buttons really quickly. I loathe DDR but GH is pretty cool for about 30 minutes, then my hands start to cramp on me. :) Does anyone else think this is a little soon, right after II hit the 360?

This is looking more and more like the Tony Hawk series. They're going to release 2 titles in the same year with another 80's themed one in the late summer? Talk about cashing in. Before you know it, there's going to be copies of Guitar Hero Underground III sitting in clearance bins at Target.

I dunno about that. The original Guitar Hero for PS2 has been been selling well at full price since 2005 and there's no sign of a price drop any time soon. People just can't get enough of this series.
And I guarantee you they're going to fuck up the Wii version by making you use that damn Wiimote to strum the guitar or something stupid like that. Seems like whenever a Wii port of a game is made, developers feel the need to shoehorn some use for the Wiimote in there somewhere, no matter how impractical it may seem. Just wait and see.

i actually like DDR, cause of the exercise and general movement... i feel im getting something out of it

I hope it hasn't been canceled. The main reason why I'm getting a PS2 and a GH2 set IS GH:80's Edition.

Actually, lots of people are hoping that the guitar will allow players to lock the Wiimote into a Guitar shell, so you can use it to activate star power. It would also make the guitar much cheaper.

People couldn't seem to get enough of the Tony Hawk series too for the first couple years. The series is still decently popular...just doesn't mean its any good any more. I would guess Tony Hawk went downhill after 3...so that gives Guitar Hero through this year to rake in the cash. What's my point? Releasing multiple sequels in one year almost always lowers the interest, quality and demand for your product. EA and many other companies have proven this as well.
They just need to be really careful with Guitar Hero. It sure as hell can't be too hard to make these games now, as they are ensuring III this Christmas. How long until people whine "there isn't anything different?"
Sounds about right, no?

There are a zillion DDR games, so I'm sure that Guitar Hero will not stop any time soon.
Plus, there's a difference between DDR, Tony Hawk and Guitar Hero-
1. not everyone has the space for ddr
2. tony hawk is a "game" game, not a fancy pants controller game.
3. guitar hero can cash in on tons of different types of rock music, and has a load of potential. I would love a 70s and 80s guitar hero, and would gladly pay for updates. Once they hit a disc full of screamo-emo I will stop buying the games.

I have to say you are 100% right. If I wanted to play a guitar I would, just like if I wanted to kill people I would buy a gun. ANY game, go ahead and try to come up with one, can be broken down to something as simple as push the button at the right time.
I also LMAO at the fact that you think DDR is ok because you get exercise, I mean for fucks sake if you want to move around to music go dancing.

I think GH is a bit different than TH at this point because GH hasn't tried to go outside of the comfort zone like TH did after number 4. I think that they have enough items to add to bring out a new one for the next couple years, also I think that the fact that they bring out new games regularly will help people justify the cost of the guitar.

New hero (and not just in a guitar sense), I salute you. :)
Having loved both GHs 1 and 2, this is absolutely awesome news. :D Even if I will only get the PS2 version because I'm too tight to buy a new guitar for a new system.

I'm still on normal for GH2 and need to pick the first one up at some point which may drop in price a bit with the new one. Sure, I saw a few months ago that Neversoft did get the title but I'm hoping for the best.

Thank you. How can no one else see this game being Tony Hawked? It is beyond obvious. Parts 1, 2 and likely 3 will do well. After that, the sequels will be churned out like Madden. Quality be damned.

I think Guitar Hero is eventually going to become the Metallica of video games. Like Metallica, the early stuff is great. Eventually there's going to be a "Black Album" of sorts (and maybe III will be it), where things are a little different but still good enough to rock. And I think you can tell where things will go from there.

I'm actually excited about the release. I thought it was a stupid idea for a game when it came out but after playing it and being able to play the songs on Hard and Expert and still pass them, I look forward to being able to play III :)
Anyone have a song list for GHIII?

Japan gets a new Pop'n Music game for the PS2 every 9 months or so, and they sell like crazy. The series is up to #14, which will be released this summer. No real difference between them, except for the 50+ new songs in each release. And that's more than enough to justify a purchase.
I don't think "more of the same" is a big deal for music games. The only complaints I've heard about DDR mixes being "more of the same" are from reviewers. These reviews have absolutely no impact on the sales of the game, because when you really get into DDR, you want ALL THE SONGS, and you buy every game you can find. When's the last time you saw a DDR game used at Gamestop?
The yearly release format works for music games, because PEOPLE WANT MORE SONGS. All you get in Tony Hawk is new moves and levels, the last big change was THUG and that's probably the high point of the series.
Judging by the number of songs I've thought about playing in Guitar Hero, they aren't going to run out of great songs for yearly sequels any time soon.

Agreed 100%. Music games like DDR, IIDX, Pop'N are all about the song lists. As long as nothing drastic is done to them gameplay-wise, they'll never get stale.

There is well over a dozen iterations of Beatmania on PS2 in Japan. I don't see this as a "selling out" rather par for the type of game that Guitar Hero is. I'm hyped up to see how they handle the Wii version personally. I also like seeing a planned release on PS2. Guitar Hero for all, nice.

If there's anyone to listen to when it comes to rhythm-based games, Karl is it.
I've got a few worries about the franchise being bastardized, but I'll reserve judgment. If you think about it, both GH games did kinda have a 'story mode' to them.

True. What I meant though is that you'll never see Guitar Hero in any of the Sale bins at Gamestop or on the clearance shelves at Target. It's a system seller and will always be priced accordingly.

I really hope they make GHIII better than 2. I really felt cheated when I bought the 2nd one. It was too easy, and the songs are bleh. I loved the challenge on GH1, the amount of metal and fast songs, and the characters looked great. The second took my favorite character and turned him from a hard-looking rocker with dreads, to a 80's stereotype that looks like he belongs in that video of "Kung Fu fighting."
As far as GHIII being on the Wii, it could be great. If they allow you to just hook your wiimote into the guitar and use it for star power as previously stated it would be awesome. However, I think even if it cuts down on costs, the price will still be around 79.99-89.99. Popularity....

My wife got me guitar hero II for the 360 last week as a b-day preasent, and I gotta' say it's a lot of fun.(Haven't had this much "FUN" with a game for years!)
Rarely would I plunk down $90 for a game, and after playing think it was worth it. And it really isn't "Easy" at all. Frig, I just barely squeaked out Freebird on Medium and I had to got to the doctor's and get a brace for my wrist cause it's cramping up so bad!
I will definately be buying any and all sequells to this game. The potential just for the different variety of music alone is definately a sell point.
Would also like to hear about the 80's compilation if anyone has a link.

So far it looks like Queens of the Stone Age is the only "confirmed" band on GH3.

Having beaten GH2 on expert in less that a month, I'm definitely looking forward to 3.
And to those that dis the game, it's usually cuz you suck at it HAH!
To those who say "get a real guitar," I've been playing guitar for 15 years, and I'm fucking awesome at it (lol), and GH2 was still very challenging. It takes major skill...no button mashing there.
I don't think it's too soon at all, no. Can't wait.

Butta, you need to stop playing GHII for a few weeks so I can catch up to you on the scoreboards. Every time I catch up to you, you get another 100-200k and it takes me another week or two to catch up to you again.

haha, i just cant stop playing it, just passed 10mil on the career songs, and 15mil overall.
it's getting tougher to find songs to improve my score on though, especially on the main career songs. i've been trying to FC some of the first couple tiers on hard, and usually i just get frustrated since i'll wind up making a dumb mistake somewhere. i'll immediately start over since on some of them without a FC, my score wont improve.
still have 3 bonus songs to 5 star on hard.

I don't know how you guy's even play on hard. I though I was doing well to beat it on Medium with the fourth fret. I can't seem to focus trying to get me finger on the fifth one.
On a side note: I walked into Wallyworld the other day to show off my "Skillz" and kill some time on The GH 360 demo, and some freakin 15 year old dude was moshin' out psychobilly freakout on expert! Needless to say I didn't bother.....I just wandered around and did "Old man" stuff like...... er......buy groceries.
