I want to pick up this game and want to know what is the best version across the board?

Ooh! Ooh! Let me take this one.
I'd pick the PlayStation game Bomberman Party Edition! Why? Because it supports 4 players, it has several of the one-player Bombermans (they suck but it's still pretty cool to see where it all began on the NES version), and many of the later ones. Too many multi-player possibilities to even list here. Essentially it incorporates everything that SNES Super Bomberman, Genesis Mega Bomberman, and PC Engine Bomberman '94 had. Plus it's got options that were not available on those original games.
You simply NEED TO OWN this game.

I actually like the SNES version of bomberman the best. I have been searching for this game for a long time but have yet to come across it. (I don't use ebay too much) The only bad thing about it is you have to go buy the 4 player adaptor for it aswell.

Yeah but... the PlayStation version has this already incorporated in it. Why would you want less? Is it the SNES controller you like?
There's really no disputing this one. Trust me, I've been a Bomberman fan ever since there WAS Bomberman, and anyone who likes any other version better just hasn't played the PSX game. I own every multi-player version of the game there is, even the Saturn and Dreamcast versions. The SNES Super Bomberman games are great but they're just a fraction of the PSX compilation.

Hey, digitalpress, where do I find the lists of "rarest games" on this site. I can't seem to locate it, but remember seeing it before.

Joe knows, yo.
At a Sega press junket in the mid-'90s, I somehow corraled nine other journos into a brief session of ten-player-simultaneous Saturn Bomberman, which was as close to Heaven as my heathen self will ever get. As evidenced by my Bomberman LCD-game keychain, Bomberman plushie, and Bomberman jacket, I like the series a lot.

Actually I have never played that version of bomberman berfore. The only game I ever played on the playstation was resident evil. I played that game for like a week straight and then it hung on me while I was trying to save and that screwed up my saved game. I never used a playstation since. Including the PS2.

So is Bomberman Party Edition a compilation disc, or is it a new game that merely borrows elements from other versions? Sounds good.
Personally, I think Super Bomberman 2 is the highlight of the series. You can read my review if you like. Maybe I just don't like those stupid animals. Oh, and Saturn Bomberman was great stuff.

Bah, I say the SNES Super Bomberman 1. Poo to incorporating everything, not only is this version endearing to me, but it's the most crap-free version IMO.

I don't think I've played the psx version, though I'm trying to get my hands on it now, but Super Bomberman 4 & 5 for super famicom are so much fun. They have animals and robots you can get on that have special abilities. Loads of fun. We've been playing the roms on my xbox and having a blast.

Give me the Saturn Version any day. Fun gameplay, online support, multiplayer, and it also doubles as a soundtrack in the car.
Anyone know if there are still games going on via netlink? I'm going to try it this summer if there are.

It's a compilation disc but it incorporates a consistent interface between the games, makes it seem like a fresh new package.
By the way, Portnoyd is on crack. Bomberman Party Edition has every single element that Super Bomberman has and a hundred other levels and features. Anyone who would say Super Bomberman is the best and "poo" to incorporating extra stuff is obviously either very stubborn or very foolish. I'll let you decide which, based on his next reply.

The Saturn one, w/multi-tap, is so perfect I've never felt the need to buy another Bomberman .
I do own DC Bomberman (3D Cell Shaded), and although it too is fun, it isn't the same game as the Saturn version. In fact, I wouldn't recommend this one at all.

PSX Bomberman PE = Load times that ruin the frantic pacing between rounds.
It's gotta be SuperBomberman for the SNES!

I'd say Saturn Bomberman was the best of the bunch. I love the ability to play as old Hudson Soft characters, including Milon from Milon's Secret Castle (who Bomberman turned into at the end of his first game). Second would be Bomberman '94 (if you can't find that, the watered down Genesis version called Mega Bomberman will do), and the third would be Atomic Punk: Global Quest.

I vote for Saturn Bomberman, just because it brought classic Tengai Makyo characters to America.

i enjoyed the n64 version of bomberman mainly because it introduced the 3d gaming mostly, plus it was not a bad single player game. PE on psx is also a good game, well worth the 10$ i paid for it.

I actually feel kind of embarassed saying this, but I never really played a bomberman game until quite recently. I never had the game for any of my systems, and finally got ahold of Bomberman for the TG16. It started out easy, but damn it gets hard. I finally beat the final boss after almost snapping the hucard in two. I really don't think I can do it again if I wanted to. Now I am on '93...and at the end again. This end boss is a bitch. I have been trying for days now. I know I can do it if I sit there and try over and over again, but I just get too frustrated. Getting so far into it and losing...then having to start it all over again...it just drives me nuts. I have Bomberman '94 for the PC Engine coming to me in a week or so, but I am making to vow of not even starting to play it until I can beat '93 damnit!

Got a newsflash for ya, son.
If you're fighting bosses, then you're playing the one-player game, which means you STILL haven't experienced Bomberman proper. Play in battle mode, that's what draws people to the game and the series. The one-player games usually feel tacked-on, though some levels (like the boss battles) are fun it's mostly tedium getting to those.

I've played pretty much every bomberman, in fact me, my wife, and friends play it at least 2-3 times a week. So, to all of us the best version is Super Bomberman 4 for Super Famicom. Get ahold of the rom sometime and check it out. Super Bomberman 5 is good also, but the animals you get to ride on 4 are loads of fun. The PSX version is nice, but the load times are crap and ruin the frantic pace to me. Sio run out and grab the rom and load it on to your PC, Xbox, DC, etc... and get ready for a 4 player blast.

Alas, the only version I have played is ol' Wario Blast for the Game Boy, which I must admit is only a passable effort. In theory you can have a four-player game with it using the Super Game Boy, but I never tried that. I never did find that supposed "easter egg" in the seventh world.
I don't suppose anyone here ever tried the unreleased Hi-Ten Bomberman for the PC-FX?

i am a little bit confused here, weren't you able to play with 5 human players in Super Bomberman 5? if so than why should the psx version be superior, i don't give a shit about hundreds of special features and a choice between 20 versions of Bomberman if none of them can be played with as much players as the old sfc version
btw i always liked the animals in ver 5

4 & 5 could both be played 5 player. 5 has the kangaroos, which are OK, but 4 has a wide variety of animals and machines, fish that go through walls, turtles that shoot and explode, one that puts people to sleep, one that shoots, one that slows them down, one that lays spikey bombs that can blow through multiple bricks, one that will lay out as many bombs as you can in a single row, and a few others. I love it. Everyone who is a bomberman fan should try it.

checked it out, you're right 4 is perhaps better than 5 but i still think both are better than any 4-player version ;)

A friend and I used to have great times with the Saturn Bomberman. We weren't able to round up eight other people, so we would set up 10 player games with eight computers players.
One time we started a 100-round team battle (my friend and I versus four other groups of two). The match took so long that I don't even think we really cared who won by the end. We stared at that screen for so long that we started giving nicknames to the other characters. Milon kept falling asleep, so he was dubbed "Sleepy Milon" LOL
Also, Bomberman makes a fantastic drinking game. You take a sip for every time you accidentally blow yourself up. You'd be surprised how well it works. :drinking:

I got one thing to say ... 10 PLAYER ACTION!!! ... Saturn Bomberman wins out just on that count for me. PLus there is the great range of characters, and the good variety of arenas. But most of all, in case I didn't mention it before, 10 PLAYERS AT ONCE!!!
And I don't know about the "Party Edition" (not sure if this got a UK release) - but I have played Bomberman on the PS1, and was not greatly impressed. It was slow and the controls were sluggish. And it doesn't look nearly as good as Saturn Bomberman (which looks just fantastic!). Oh, and Saturn Bomberman has the best intro as well 8-)

PC-FX? I was pretty sure this was special hardware, though possibly based on a PC-FX forerunner like the Iron Man.
But no, I sure haven't tried it. I'd love to have it in my collection though...
