namco guncon problems

I recently got two namco guncons in a lot. they are the original grey model (npc 103 i think). the seller didn't know if they worked or not. I just bought area 51 for ps1 to try them out. i've tried them in both the ps1 and the ps2, and nothing happens. I plug the yellow cable into the video jack and then the ps2/ps1 video jack into the back of the guncon cable. are these guns dead or am i doing something wrong? do you have to be a certain distance away from the tv for them to work?

I don't even think Area 51 is compatible with the Guncons. Pretty sure you can only use the Konami Justifier with that game.

I don't think they work with area 51 for ps1...I'm pretty sure that game uses the regular light guns(without yellow video wire)

I don't own the game to verify this but the namco guncons were designed to work only with certain games.
And the regular light guns work with other games.

I think the only game I've owned that let you use either type of gun was Elemental Gearbolt.

A search online may provide a list of games that are namco guncon compatible.

i feel the pain. i was just pondering the same question all week. i just got one with point blank 2, and i have no idea how it works. does the yellow thingy need plugged in at all? i dont have a port to plug it into on my ps1. i have an original ps1 from launch but it's fried. i guess there may be a special adapter or something.

ahh, i hadn't even thought of that. I can't find a list of compatible titles, but I did see it mentioned in an ebay review of area 51 that it isn't compatible with the guncon. so dammit. what gun is compatible then? the justifier is a sega genesis gun, so that's out (unless I'm missing something).

Or couldn't you just plug it into where the cord goes into the TV?

They are sort of uncommon. Most people wouldn't know it was the "Justifier" if it didn't still have the box, so Konami is a good search term to work with. I did a quick search and all I came up with was it bundled with a game, however it's a great deal.

Plug it into the TV, then plug the View plug (Yellow) from the A\V cable onto the other side of the Guncon Yellow plug. That's what I did, and it works (So I got to play Point Blank 3!). If you're using an RF switch for your PSX, however, then you'll need a special adaptor.

Area 51 doesn't work with the GunCon.

If you don't have Point Blank 1-3, Time Crisis/TC:Project Titan or Elemental Gearbolt your pretty much up shit creek with those GunCons.

I recently picked up a Guncon. I would be surprised if it really didn't work with Area 51 because I own Maximum Force which uses the same engine and the Guncon works perfectly. I am using a PlayStation 2 and an Apex TV.
