I just got this game today (my first GH) and after playing the first song it went back to menus and I said to myself damn these menus are annoying because they seemed all wavey and moving a bit. Didnt think of it and went onto next song, but after this song was over I took a glance at my clock and my vision was all screwed up! things seemed like they were gorwing and shrinking, twirling, whatever. Sorta like if you ever did one of those things where you stare at something spinning for a long time then look at your hand and it seems to twist, well ya same effect here.
This happens after every song I play, I sit approx 7-8 feet from screen and wear glasses, the effect goes away after about 15 seconds. I used to play games like frequency however I never recall ever having severe vision side effects such as this.
Just wondering if anyone else has this problem with this game or any other one, and if its potentialy hazardous for my eyes...

You have epilepsy, unfortunately.
Do not play Everquest, or you will die.
Are there a bunch of flashing lights on the screen or anything? Is it possible for you to play without your glasses on? It might not be bad, but it's something you need to get checked out if it continues.

I've personally never played Guitar Hero, but I know that when I'm riding a train and staring out the window at the ground for a while, and the train stops, I've still got the illusion of the ground moving away from me. This wears off after a couple of seconds. I don't think it's anything to be concerned about, don't know if your case is similar.

I think its because I am staring at a fixed place on screen while it has a constantly moving background...however my 360 just broke today the day I get game....so now In a way GH2 is gonna cost me $240 to play with repair costs.

I'd see a doctor... :o I guess the acid trips are included with GH2! lol

I have perfect eyesight, and I see the same thing after I play. The same thing would happen to me with Frequency and Amplitude, too. I think it's kinda cool, myself.
It's because the notes are scrolling towards you and you're concentrating on them very intently. Your eyes adjust to the movement and take a bit to realize that things aren't moving when you look away.
I had some family members over for Easter and they noticed the same thing.

It happens for me as well. I take a break between songs.

I get the same thing here, but usually only after playing a few songs in a row. Try to move your eyes around the screen a bit more.

I'm surprised all of you are acting the way you are. It just happens, like you compared it to an optical illusion, that's all it really is. Over time it'll go away, but when I first started playing GH1 back in the day (same for DDR, now that I think about it) it would happen between every song, now it rarely happens, if at all.

It happens to me too. After every song I would just have to close my eyes for a while.

I wonder if, somehow, this could evolve into a class action lawsuit...

Yeah, it happens to me, too. Don't see a doctor--you're fine.

ROFL I guess if you're gonna have acid trips while playing a game, GH 2 makes the most sense haha

It's more of a brain than a vision thing. You could compare it to what your eyes do when you spin around really fast about 10 times and get dizzy. I got kind of tired of it so I learned to play most songs without looking at the screen too much.

Same here. I just gave Jordan on Expert a good hour of effort (with the hyperspeed cheat on) and my whole body is recovering right now, hehe.

I'll chime in as well as one who's felt the effect. Honestly, until you mentioned it, I didn't even realize that it was happening because I rarely look away from the screen when I'm playing a game. I just thought the menus were a little wonky. Like someone said before me, it's really not that different from the effect you'd get looking at an optical illusion because you're focusing on one space for a couple of minutes (which is a lot longer than most illusions take to work).
Now that we've settled that this effect is natural, if only there were some way to neutralize the collective feelings about the insane pricing (and coincidental lameness) of the new song pack downloads....

The reason I'd see a doctor is a two parter. First, the epilepsy concerns. It warrants checking into, though it could be a form of motion sickness. Better safe and eliminate the possibility of epilepsy I say. Sencond is that I have never experienced this issue myself... even after 8+ hour sessions on GH with no breaks, my eyes are normal aside from the expected eye strain. You get that just from viewing a monitor though.

GH2 is the only game that has ever done it to me. Frets on Fire didnt, nor did the first GH on the PS2. Just for whatever reason, this game makes my eyes bug out

It's funny, 3D games like Sonic Adventure make me very dizzy, but GH doesn't even faze me.
I suggest you visit an ophthalmologist and get your eyes checked out.

Seems there is already some sort of class action lawsuit
Opti-Grab
Opti-Grab is a device created by Navin R. Johnson to keep your glasses on your face, and to provide a convenient handle to grab them by to take them off. The Opti-Grab is a curved piece of metal with a curved pad that connects to the bridge of your glasses, with the pad resting on your nose. This provides extra support and allows you to grab it and take your glasses off with one fluid motion as Navin demonstrates (Picture left).
The Opti-Grab has an unfortunate side effect in that it makes the wearer cross-eyed. Thus Navin R. Johnson was sued and lost all his money.
"Damn these glasses!"
"Yes, sir! (points to glasses) I damn thee!"

I wouldn't overlook this. I have only had this experience once. It was after being awake for twenty hours, and playing/watching Doom being played for half of it. I had something go haywire. It didn't last for a few minutes but instead I went home, went to bed for 8 hours and woke up and was still dizzy (spinning slower though) for a few hours. It's very scary. I would assume it's simlar to vertigo.

I'm another. Never really bothered me as i assumed it was just a focus thing. I'm suprised epilepsy was brought up so soon. A seizure is nothing like that.

I never had this happen, but I definitely was seeing Guitar Hero when I closed my eyes and it would persist for a day or two after playing.
Only extraordinarily addicting things have ever done that to me, like Tetris and studying Kanji. In the latter 2 cases, though, I would see the shapes everywhere I looked! I used to be able to actually see the entire GB screen when I closed my eyes and play a game of Tetris with my mind. It was clear as day. SOmetimes I would lose, sometimes I'd do well, but the blockes were still random, and I'd still see the next block coming in that little box and everything. I had a perfect mental picture of the game screen. It was really fucking weird.
However, I never did see GH shapes anywhere except when I closed my eyes sometimes or tried to sleep at night. Sleeping was the worst, because it would be in my dreams and then I'd wake up several times briefly during the night as everyone does to turn over and I'd be thinking of GH. It was pretty annoying. Then I'd think about playing it all day. Argh.
But the ground or walls moving and stuff? Nope, never had this happen.

That sort of thing happens to me as well It only happens when I play a certain game for a really long time without any breaks. When I close my eyes, I can see a game of DonPachi, but it's not really "seeing." It's more like I'm seeing it from somewhere between my mind's eye and my actual eyes. It's a difficult sensation to describe.

It happens to me as well, but it seems to be much more prominent in GH2 than GH1.

There are many levels of seizures. Involuntary muscle convulsions are on the upper scale, where as blurred/distorted vision and/or being "zoned out" is on the lower. It is a legitamate concern. Could be vertigo, motion sickness or even the "Magic Eye" effect though. If it were me, I'd feel better eliminating the possibility of epilepsy. I'd be rather pissed if I was... no more GH. :(

This used to happen to me, but of course that was before I chose the Widow Mako guitar and started making that f$%^@^r float in the air after ripping through every song. Try to use more excessive whammy bar when hitting your power cords, and the after each song close your eyes and bang your head to the encore chants.

my eyes tend to do this as well with these music games if I play alot and at fast speeds. The guitar hero's especially. Don't know why. Its not good. I take regular breaks when playing sometimes even take a few days off before playing again

GHIII bothers the hell out of me in this way. As a matter of fact, it only takes a few songs to give me a complete headache. It didn't bother my wife at all but after discussing it with a friend, it turns out he has the same problem when he plays GHIII as well.
It really sucks as I really no longer play the game because of this. One song is ok (wavy "moving" menu after the song) but much after that....it's borderline motion sickness.

The visual distortion is simply a side-effect of the mind control. Go back to playing it and be sure to buy our products in the future.
