Namco bringing compilation title to the DS this Summer

Posted Apr 10th 2007 1:00PM by David Hinkle

Namco Bandai has announced today that they plan on bringing a new title to the DS this Summer. With a title like Namco Museum DS, we wonder what it could include? Lucky for us, we have a press release that spells it all out. This game is to feature 8 different titles from Namco's past. These titles, which are their best-sellers (natch), include:

* Pac-Man
* Pac-Man Vs.
* Galaga
* Xevious
* Dig Dug II
* Galaxian
* Mappy
* Tower of Druaga

Namco Museum DS will retail for $19.99 when it hits retail shelves this Summer.

Pac-Man Vs. alone is worth the $20.

Seriously.

Although I'm bummed to see there's no Ms. Pac.

I know we'll see seven or eight of these damn things, but c'mon. How many Namco Museum's do we need?

Seriously.

No arguement here. Good thing they threw VS in or the release would be shit IMO. Note to Bandai/Namco: Enough already! Unless your gonna spill your entire arcade catalog, I'm not interested. I'll get this one for VS... oh crap, they got me again. :P

they should have added Pac-Man Arrangement (the cross between classic Pac-Man and Pac-Mania), which has had only one console port (on Pac-Man Collection for GBA)...

Agreed. At least it's playable through backwards compatibilty (though without a high score save. :( )

It's on the 'original' PS2 Namco Museum game as well. Not the newer 'battle Collection' one.

Ah, I forgot about that... Still, compared to the gazillion copies of Pac-Man that exist out there, Pac-Man Arrangement is still pretty unknown and well worth it (mind you, I always liked Pac-Mania, so it's only normal that I'd like PMA).

Wow, and right after Konami Classics was released, Namco-Bandai reveal this pitiful 8 title compilation. Namco needs to step it up with these compilations.

I'm a sucker and will still buy it, after all Pac-Man Vs. is sweet. But seriously, Galaga, Galaxian, Tower of Druaga, Xevious, Pac-Man... AGAIN! Are we ever going to see Ordyne, Assault, Dragon Spirit, or Galaga 88 again? What about the loads of arcade games we've yet to even see? Where's Splatterhouse, Dangerous Seed, Dragon Saber, Burning Force, Phelios, etc?

I really hope they at least give us a TATE orientation option since most (all?) of these games featured a tall screen orientation in the arcades.

If they put some innovative thought into it, they could include Baby Pacman. The top screen would be the video game portion and the bottom screen would be the pinball portion. But again, that would require too much creativity. Like others said, I enjoy the Namco Museums (I proudly own 1-5 on my PS1), but they need to find a new direction with their classics. How about a Pacman MMORPG? Oops, maybe thats too far!LOL

I'll pass, I've bought enough versions of Namco Museum over the years, I'm done with the small collections of mostly the same stuff. If Namco ever decides to give us a decent amount of stuff and release something that rivals Taito Legends or Midway Arcade Treasures, I'd buy it.

This is pretty cool and is probably worth getting the collection for, but I'd rather see it on a collection with other Pacman games, rather than just the same games we've been seeing on Namco collections for the last 15 years. This one doesn't even have Bosconian or Rally-X. I love Galaga and Galaxian, but shit...

My true dream is that Namco will release a port of Pacman 2 on the DS--which would be absolutely brilliant with touchscreen control--and then have *EVERY* classic Pacman game playable in the arcade instead of just the Pac Jr. game the original Pacman 2 had.
