The invisible block is freaking priceless. I nearly wet myself, trying to stay quiet with my 5-day old asleep next to me while I was watching the video.

Great vid! I still like videos of the "Air" SMB hack. One of the many speed runs can be seen here:

The coin pipe is what got me. The hidden blocks were truly excellent throughout, but that coin pipe... I'm glad I wasn't taking a sip of a drink at that moment. Thanks for the link.

Those hidden blocks were awesome, I couldn't stop laughing. And the floorless pipe-room, CLASSIC. :)

Yeah, that thing of hiding coin blocks where you want to jump is an old trick in SMB hacks. It's not very funny when you're the one playing. Especially when the hacker only does it once near the end of an incredibly hard level or something.

The NES emulator for the DS has finally the solved the problem of ridiculously hard SMB hacks by having a rewind button. You can just press the L shoulder button at any time to rewind the game and try again. Thank god.

Hilarious... but Jesus H. Christ, this guy needs to learn how to edit videos.
Watching him eat shit repeatedly is the whole point, though.

EDIT: The best part in my opinion is at 6:30 where the guy almost dies because of a hidden block, but then gets a reprieve when he's pulled through the pipe by the girder and even manages to kill the Bullet Bill, but then dies right after that anyway. Classic.

I would have gone nuts trying to play that game. I was about to lose it just watching that video. LOL

Wow. It's like he broke the broken hack!

Just wondering, is there any control possible in 3-2, the silent endlessly-moving level? And is there any speedrun in which the princess is actually saved? (I remember the author's web site suggested this was possible.)

LMAO that was pretty good. No way I'd ever play it but it was great to watch.

Poor Mario! He's gotta have the feeling that God hates him.

If this game was originally programmed like that, instead of the game being known as one of the greatest games of all time, It'd be known as one of the WORST of all time! lol... :D

Those are the paces Mario would be put through in his afterlife, if he went berserk and killed Luigi. I think the title, "Mario's Hell," would be highly appropriate for this mod.

This hack reminds me of my favorite way to waste time, The Life Ending Adventure (http://blog53.fc2.com/k/king75/file/owata.html). You have to keep on trying and dying to attain a nearly impossible perfection. Games like that really appeal to me.

My, but that site's slow.

If you want to watch it "offline", use http://player0024.tudou.com/flv/005/296/053/5296053.flv (courtesy of http://www.saveflv.com).

I only watched a few minutes of it, which is much more than I would ever play that thing. I too like the hidden coin box right at the beginning, and then right after that they give you a mushroom, like you are going to live long enough to actually need it. Brutal!

Wow, I though 1-1 was bad, but my god 1-2 is much worse and that was the beginning of the stage.

Looks like fun. Where can a guy get the ROM for this one?

Sweater Fish Deluxe
04-13-2007, 05:08 PM
I think I used to have this ROM or one very like it, but deleted assuming it was corrupted because of the fact that you just fall to your death at the beginning unless you know you can start off with a jump in situations like that, which I didn't before watching this video.

wtf how do you beat the first level

Aye. Almost nothing at all happens in the last three minutes.

At least Air World made some sense. There are ways to get past everything in that; they're stupid ways which can clearly only be pulled off if you're moving frame-by-frame in an emulator, but they're there, it seems.

But this one? This is just evil.

wtf how do you beat the first level

I figured out how to get past the first screen, but the cat-thing is mystery.

The cat, to the right, is a decoy. You need to jump completely over the spiky platform on the first screen, using the moving platform as a midpoint, and then fall under it into the chasm before the spiky thing hanging from the ceiling drops onto you. Just stay on the left side once you fall :)

The same kinda of masichist that would play The Lost Levels? Of course this seems like 20 different kinds of pain and frustration.

Whoever programed that hack is a sick, twisted and sadistic monster! I got all wound up and anxiety ridden just watching that guy play it. I think I'd have a psychotic episode if I ever tried it myself. I can't believe that all of that effort only resulted in getting partially through the second board of the first world. If the entire game is hacked in the same fashion then I would surmise it to be one of the top methods of bringing about a nervous breakdown known to humanity. The sad thing is that some demented part of me wants to try the infernal thing. :devilish:

What makes that video funny is the voice of the guy.
He kinda sounds like Woody Allen.

"This game... ah man, it's like a comment on the existentialism of life. The meaninglessness of it all. The pointless fight against the forces of nature..... ahh fuck. You see that? Did you see that??? I'm dead! Who would do that? Who would put an invisible block in the way of my jump? Masochists. That's what they are.

"Ahhh fuck. Died again. Okay I've had it. That's it; I'm really going to do it this time. Somebody hand me a hammer. I mean it; I've had enough."

I had to shut it off, because my boss might wonder why I'm laughing loudly in a quiet office! LOL

There's some version of the same video going around now that has been over-dubbed with a "humorous" narration. I don't think the guy's voice is any funnier than his jokes personally.

Hah, great stuff. Love the coin pipe and the mid point. It's a shame it ended on such a lackluster note, though.

I just made it to the boss on that. I'm not sure what to do once he starts throwing stuff. Anyone know if you can beat him?

Oh, and I'm nowhere near insane enough to play that hack for 20 seconds.
