If we trade in our 360s at EB Games or Gamestop for the Eliete, what will they do about gamesaves, achievement points, gamer tags, and arcade games on the old HD's?

Anybody have any idea?

buy the system first, swap data, then trade in.

Is there a special deal EB/GS gives you for trading in one for the other? If not, what's the trade in credit they give you?

There will be a trade in special for those that upgrade their systems. However, unless I read the flyer wrong, we usually buy the hard drive seperately from the main console (hence why all used ones are cores, sans the tv cable and controller type).

If that's the case, you would just trade in yoru deck sans your 20 gig, get the cable from microsoft, swap stuff over and then trade in the 20 gig seperately.

From Joystiq:

Trading in an Xbox 360 Premium and picking up an Elite will leave you with a net cost of $230.

That's not too shabby. Especially since I have a few games I could trade in, as well.

I'm now actually debating wehter I just want to buy a 2nd 360, outright. From what I hear the black models are supposed to have a limited run. And I'm spotty about trading in a console I've never had a problem with, for one with a history of problems. I know it will be covered by a new warranty, but that's a tough call...

I'm almost certain that the black model will be a permanent SKU and that the HDMI and 120GB hard drive will be put into the white premiums by the fall.

you would probably make more money selling it on craigslist or ebay then trading it in to EB/GS

The Elite is not a limited run.

The only thing you need to worry about transferring is your game saves, the other things are associated with your Xbox Live account, and your account can easily be migrated to a new console.

That's a legitimate concern, IMO. It's why I'm reluctant about selling my PS2 and getting a PStwo.

When I traded in my 360 they told me they send it all in to microsoft and they wipe the drive and such.

Hey everyone,

Figured I'd update this with the correct information:

1. The trade-in of your old 360 Pro
Read the flyer, turns out for those of you UPGRADING from a current 360 Pro to this one can trade in your current system AFTER you buy the Elite. Meaning you spend the $480 upfront, convert things over, and then bring in the flyer coupon with your Elite purchase receipt and you get the bonus trade in credit. It's more like you are being rewarded for the purchase rather than saving on the purchase.

You must have the coupon though, so make sure you get it when you purchase your Elite.

2. Transferring of 20 gig to 120 gig
Because of the above situation, this will allow upgraders to transfer their info at their leisure.

Please note the $250 trade-in offer on the Premium does require the hard drive.

Also note that at this time, the Elite System packages DO NOT have the transfer cable with them, as far as we can tell. Only the separate 120 Gig drives do.

3. Elite is not limited edition
As stated above, the Elite is NOT a limited edition. Microsoft will be supporting 3 SKUs on the 360 deck. Thus allowing gamers to hae their choice of the Wee, not so Wee, and friggin huge 360 bundle.

Launch day shipments will be slim (we couldn't even do pre-orders) but they should eventually start coming in regularly.

No 360 for me yet, but come Burnout 5 day me and the Elite will be getting to know one another :D.

Great, looks like I'll be buying a 512 memory card and then promptly exchanging it when I'm done with it. Thanks microsoft for not including a cable we'll only ever need once!

I mean sure, not everyone will use it, but they had to expect some people wanted to upgrade...

Meh, I might even just keep the 20 gig and sell the 120 gig cheaper. I'm sure some people only want that, while it's the only thing I don't want.

Nesmaster:

Microsoft said they'd figure out a way with upgraders...though they still haven't announced it yet. I wouldn't be surprised if they allow some sort of mail-away for the cable or figure something out with the on-board ram.

All you simply have to do is recover you Gamer Tag on your new 120GB HDD and all of your current info will then be downloaded from xbox live onto your new system. as of games demos and movies it will allow you to download them again free of charge. The only thing im not positive about is the game saves but that might also be copied over during the GT recover

In text it says you need to trade in a premium system, which means you need the HD cables, a wireless controller, and a 20 gig hard-drive, all together in order to get the $250 credit.

Right now there is a deal going on, on the website (You need to print out the coupon, where you trade in two games and get %50 add on to the trade, do that with your games soon and get that extra credit. http://www.gamestop.com/gs/weeklyad/current/

I just want to say in response to many many people asking and having done no research prior.

There's a fucking transfer cable.

not necessarily applicable to this thread.

The chances of me getting 360 number 2 just went up:

Form joystiq:

Like divorcing Han Solo from his carbonite tomb, the bounty hunters at Llamma pulled the new and improved motherboard from its black shell and proceeded to pore over its silicon surface, documenting every facet and imagining what it would look like in golden bikini. What did they discover here? First, what appears to be a quick-n-dirty fix for the RROD: some epoxy around the CPU and GPU. The big question: while both chips are different revisions from the current models, they can't be certain if this indicates a die-shrink to the 65nm promised land though they state there's a "good possibility" it does.

Hopefully, that epoxy fix will help on the Red Rings of Death. And the CPU and GPU revisions are always helpful.

Well the problems with getting new Xbox 360s (I know I'm on my 5th one), and not sure if a transfer cable will fix this (I'm assuming transfer cable is just gonna easily move the data from one hard drive to another).

All your downloadable content is matched up with 2 things, your gamertag and your unique xbox 360 it was downloaded too. One of these has to match in order to play the content.

If you get a new 360, the downloadable content will only work on your profile and only if you're online. So you lose internet that day? Well good luck playing your decked out warrior in Oblivion.

Also say your sister has a profile and she downloaded a game. Well on your new xbox it will no longer work under your profile.

Overall its a pretty shoddy setup.

edit: and no a gamertag recover will not get your game saves, I believe to get these you'll need to do your transfer cable stuff or use a memory card.
