Can someone please explain what the hell "Wii Connect 24/7" does?
I activated this feature back when I bought my Wii in January. Since then I've noticed that the "on" light was always yellow when the Wii was turned off...sort of a standby mode I guess. The Wii has also been consistantly hot (or warm...depending on your perspective). Not unusual, but something has been working inside the Wii (hard drive perhaps).
This past weekend I deactivated the Wii Connect feature and the light now is red when the Wii is turned off. The Wii also is cool to the touch as you would expect. This seems like a better situation for the console, as I'm sure having it warm all the time is not a good thing.

Mine always freezes on the download during Wii connect. I talked to others with this problem. I would keep an eye on your system if you use this option. Mine got VERY hot during the downloading (I guess it was looping the processor).

You should have been receiving messages and download notifications. The tray lights up an glows blue when you've got something new. You can also get messages from other Wii users on your friends list and get random Miis. Head into the Mii Parade and you'll likely have a ton of them waiting for a home on your Wii.

Now that you mention it, I've seen it glow blue several times over the last few months. I never knew what was going on. Interesting.

Wii-Connect 24 doesn't do much right now. But I can confirm a few things that it does do. Yes it checks periodically on whether you received any new messages from others on your Wii FC list. In addition if you have the Everyone Votes and Weather channels, then periodically the Wii will connect to some remote hosts to get updates on that information as well. I believe the news channel must also do this as I have actually not used my Wii at all during the day..then disconnected the wireless network and was still able to use the news channel and browse news items that it had downloaded prior to me pulling the plug. So apparently some of the news articles are also sent and stored and updated periodically.
I have also had my Wii on standby with Wii-Connect 24 on since launch and so far so good. I have noticed that the Wii does get hot to the center rear of the Wii. But it isn't anyworse than what my cable box or some of my wall warts are like from being plugged in all the time.

My wife and I have a running gag that the blue light glows like that when the Wii is dreaming.
Kind of like a dog trying to run in its sleep :)
