View Full Version : Anyone else get screwed by the Raddison for Philly4???

We JUST got a phone call today telling us that we were being moved from the Raddison (home of philly4) to the Sheraton a quarter mile away- apparently they are moving a lot of the Philly4 people to that hotel- apparently that is what they told POG.
We reserved this hotel over a month ago, so anyone else that reserved there... you might want to check to see if they are sticking it to you too.
Between this and getting screwed by the Philly people by paying 60$ a pop for tables I am really pissed.

Will,

Myself and Steve (NoahsMyBro) just got the ramjob today as well. Hopefully, you, me, Jaime, and Steve will be relatively close to each other in the new hotel. :/

yeah, i mean this is ocmplete bullshit- if i had wanted to be a mile away (it IS a mile away, not a quarter of a mile), then I would have found a reasonable hotel and registered online like last year.
some people may not care, but it is a major pain in my ass

How can they do that? Why did they do it? Does this have something to do with the special rate? I'm in a suite so I don't think I'll have any problems.

Oh how fucking bogus, on behalf of all Philly natives I apologize. are they at least providing shuttles and such for people who flew in?

wberdan
03-26-2003, 03:10 PM
They said they had a computer malfunction that allowed people to keep booking long after they were full. that must have been a hell of a malfunction since we reserved over a month ago.
yeah right.
i'm sure that what the real problem is, is that other people that *will*l pay the regular rate are getting our rooms, and we're getting shipped to a hotel thats a mile away for $89 a night.
big deal. we paid 20$ a night less last year for a hotel the same distance away. i hope i hear from POG soon, becasue I'm going to call the radisson and tell themn to fuck off, and worry about finding another room when i get there.

When did you guys book your rooms? And did they leave a message or did you pick up the phone and speak to them in person? I'm asking because I have not yet received this dreaded call and want to plan accordingly =)

Then again I have a block of rooms reserved so maybe I'm "safe"?

Steve called me at work today and said he had some sort of bad news. Bah! He said they said about 20-25 rooms were overbooked. We reserved LATE (2 weeks ago max).

I'd personally be more worried that you go to your room, and someone's already in it! I saw it happen several times when I was in Atlanta. Hotels apparently have very poor booking systems.

not sure on exact date, but it was over a month ago. they left a message, of all things on POG's voicemail. they told her flat out that they were moving convention people.
I am going to be speaking to them when I can get the confirmation # and such from pog

Yes, that too - they said it was only convention people. How nice. Wonder if they didn't overbook, and they got a corporate party or high rollers to say coming in, and we get bumped >:(

I think Will hit the nail on the head - I also think they decided they could fill rooms with people paying full-price, so they tossed us to the Sheraton instead.

My biggest reason for staying the weekend rather than driving in each day was to be able to hang out after-hours with you guys & gals, and my biggest concern with the relocation is it would screw that over. So, as lousy as this potentially is, I'm now optimistic that there will be enough of us in the Sheraton that we can essentially bring the aprty with us wherever the winds of megacorp blow us.

...hey, that gives me a thought, maybe megacorp, as a goodwill gesture, could subcontract out the task of blowing us....

screw it, all i want to know is: where is the party friday night? and WILL WE BE ABLE TO DRINK IN THE CONVENTION HALL THIS YEAR???? if not, then im goin to the bar in between sales friday night.

I would advise you gentleman to call the hotel to complain every hour. After a while they'll get sick of it and comp you a room. It may not be a room in the Rad, unfortunately, but at least you won't have to pay for it.

Hey, I booked thru priceline and they gave me the Sheraton (can't remember, but I think it's costing me $50 a day.) It's probably an ok hotel. So, I'll be at the same hotel as you Willie- now THAT's something to celebrate. As if you needed an excuse. Remind me to have a beer tonite to prepare my liver for the weekend.

I have no problem being a mile away, although it kind of sucks to move shit back and forth. Either way, it's painful.

Willie- you will have an extra skateboard for me, right? I'll need it as a trolley.

When you guys arriving at the lovely Sheraton? I guess the festivities start at noon on Friday?

What are people doing Thursday nite? I'm arriving at 7pm.

I'll be there around 5pm on Friday to meet up with NoahsMyBro to check in. On the way down, I'm stopping at Eight on the Break to see how well I fair at the other best competition arcade in NJ, the first being my main stomping grounds.....

I'll be at the show at 6pm on the dot. And if we can drink in the convention center, LET THE PARTY BEGIN.

by "worse things" would you mean:
having the hotel room door opened at 8am by a stranger, because the cheap ass $20 a night (canadian) hotel that Sly drives you to has no locks.... ;)
or would you be referring to the porno that the same hotel plays as you wake up (two people buring someone in a grave, and then having sex on it)?

Nope...i meant really worst than that...heh, heh, heh....

Ok, imagine yourself waking up with the worst hangover you ever got in your entire life, and next to you there's someone lying in the bed...

A nudie bar girl with her white underpants, which has a streak of somthing brown right between the two ass cheeks....Now that's worst, even damn scary!!! Try to beat that!!!

BTW, it wasn't me but one of my friends that told me his story...still gives me goosebumps just to imagine it....:o

Humm...think Joe will either delete this message or simply move it into the "off topic" section.

So did all the PC4 people who had rooms at the Radisson get moved or only some people? I have a suite at the Scanticon (the other hotel in the center) so I'm having no problems. It'll suck if everyone got moved.

apparently only the ones that got the discount rate. i am suspicious of this somewhat, since dave newman is also staying at the sheraton. i contacted him to bitch about the hotel procedure and he played it off as no big deal.

Yes, I got a WONDERFUL MESSAGE from the hotel this morning.
So, I call up to complain.
"I'm very sorry ma'am, but our computers crashed, and central reservations kept taking reservations and when they rebooted the computers they found out we were really overbooked."
"When did this happen?"
"I'm not really sure"
"I reserved over a month ago. You're giving me TWO DAYS NOTICE."
"I'm really sorry ma'am."
"You know, what really upsets me, besides the fact that your run your BUSINESS like this, is that you've given me so little notice of this DIRE problem your computers have, that I couldn't get another hotel if I wanted to. And if I had WANTED to, I could have found a better rate than ten dollars cheaper than your hotel!"
"I'm really sorry ma'am."

Hmm. I did not receive this phone call you all speak of.

Now that could be just great or really really bad. Obviously the last thing I want is to find this out when I get there. On the other hand, I don't necessarily want to call today and alert them to the fact that there's still a block of rooms they have not "moved" yet.

So I think what I'll do is sit tight. I don't know how well the "I'm sorries" are gonna work with John and I growling at the front desk.

Sick Sean and John on 'em, that should shut them up. There's a conversation I want to witness... O_O :D Just make sure you properly dispose of the corpses when you're done...

Seriously though, I've never heard of such a thing happening before. I can buy the excuse that their computers crashed, but you'd think that they would have figured this out more than two days before the convention. And why is it that people who booked over a month ago are getting moved? Are you telling me that the hotel was completely booked months ago and those reservations were made in error? I highly doubt that. It's the people who reserved only a few weeks ago that should get booted. They should start with the last people who reserved and then go down the list. Sounds like people decided to pay full price and they came up with this conveinient excuse to boot the discountees. This is such a load...

If this is the way the Radisson is going to treat their customers I suggest we all find a different place to stay next year. This is just unacceptable. >:(

Here's a little suggestion, if you got a call on voice mail or answering machine and you haven't called back, don't. Just go there in person and feign ignorance when they tell you they overbooked and you have to go elsewhere. if you can act like a retarded person wiht a one track mind, pretend you don't understand and insist you want the key *now* because you're tired from long trip and sick from bad lunch.

The worse is that they call the police and throw you out.

I would also suggest you compile a list of people who called in and confirmed the reservations, when they called in, if they got discount rate or not, etc. etc. if there's a pattern I'm sure the BBB would be interested in knowing why certain people were booted and not just the last few reservation, or why they took a month to "notice" the overbooking.

Had this happened to me, I could have given them an extra dose of grief by communicationg only in the sign language and faking illeterate (can't read or write) if they called police on me, the police would confirm they can't throw me out because of communication difficulity and that they'd have to hire (at their own expense) a sign language interprenter. (American with Disibilities Act, the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 (sec. 504) and PA 204 of 1982.) They'd end up paying out of their pocket some $50 just to tell me they overbooked. >) >)
