does anybody know to hook up a dreamcast to a PC?

hey. I got myself a copy of Marvel vs. capcom 2 from japan, but I found out it's impossible to get all the characters. so I find out about downloading VMU files, and using these programs and ect. but the only proplem is actually getting the files on the VMU itself. I don't know how I would hook up the DC to a PC. can someone tell me?

You have three options for getting a file from the Internet or your PC onto the Dreamcast.

If you have dialup, you can connect to the Internet with your Dreamcast and download the file directly to your VMU using the DC web browser.

Or there are third party memory cards available (like the ones from Nexus) that connect to your PC through the parallel port for transfering files.

There's also a homebrew DC utility called VMUTool that you can burn to a CDR along with whatever saves you want to to transfer. VMUTool can also do some other really nice stuff like expanding your VMUs to 241 blocks instead of just 200 (doesn't use compression, there's actually 41 blocks of totally unused space on the VMU).

blackgenma bought the import Marvel vs. Capcom 2 from my store and is still having some problems getting the unlocked file to his VMU. He's actually considering trading the game back in. I offered a suggestion - would anyone here be willing to either a) send me a VMU with the file on it or b) let me send you his VMU to put the file on and send back? Either way, we'll cover your costs and your time.

Blackgemma, try downloading a complete image of VMU Tool (actually now called Dream Explorer) from here:

The CD image has over 6000 (!) saves already on it, so I'm betting that the one you want is among them.

If that doesn't work, I could make a CD specifically with the save you need and send it to you or if you want to send a VMU to me, I'd transfer the file to it and send back the VMU. I don't have any VMUs to spare for sending one out to you, though.
