I just bought a dreamcast from a pawn shop and the system works for the most part, but when i plug in the controllers they dont work. I know the controllers work cause i used the on by best friend's DC, so i think its the system. any tips on how to fix it?

I have one that 1 control dosent work

i think there is a loose connection or a cracked board i put somthing under the plastic on the controller.
that holds it up and makes the connection solid

If a controller doesn't work in any port, then your resistor may have blown. It's a safety system put in by Sega so you don't overload your controller port. This resistor acts very close to a fuse, whenever too much current goes through, the resistor "blows", causing your controllers not to work. You could consider this a design flaw, as it can happen when you are use your Dreamcast normally.

That's worse than not being able to change something as simple as the system battery. You have to go through hell to replace that, too.

I've heard of this happening before with some 3rd party controllers. I'm not that technical, but just from reading that paragraph I'm not sure why they just didn't put an inline fuse in there as well, as the design is (apparently) intentional.

I personally supported Dreamcast from day 1 launch day, and I can confirm from experience that yes, 3rd party controllers can fry Dreamcasts. I blew through 2. The controllers were made by MadCatz that blew mine.

My 3rd Dreamcast got it's modem fried on PSO so I just gave up altogether on Dreamcast after that.

Anybody know where I could get resistors for the dreamcast online? Maybe a direct link.

Id hate to let my DC go to waste. An official DC controller mightve fried my board and I want to learn how to fix these things.

Actually you don't NEED to, find the resistor, carefully turn it until the two leads make contact (effectively surpassing the blown resistor) and VOILA!
I KNOW I KNOW, the smart electronics minded people will tell you WHY you should not do this but all I know is I did and it's been working fine for a few years now for me LOL!
