good to see you finally got into the forums, remember if you want the best picture quality you may want to ask for a a/v modded top loader...not cheap though
good luck, free bump

What's the difference?
an NES top loader, only has RF out, which is the worst visual way possible to play games on a tv... (the antenna jack). people have did a solder mod job on the console to alloy you to use standard A/V cables (the red, white, yellow cables) which offer far superior quality to RF.
the price of a top loader + price of doing the soldering job and cut the plastic etc etc = pricey piece of hardware, but undoubtedly the best way to play original NES games on your tv today.

to make the answer short, NO
i'm assumeing from our past conversations you don't have any experence modding systems and from what i hear a top loader A/V mod is one of the more complex ones (especially if you want it done correctly without lines)
i would just buy a toploader and just get the mod later if you would like. if someone offers a toploader with the mod already then thats a plus. but like i said, if your not satisfied with the picture you get from RF connection you can always get the mod done by someone later. it really depends on how much you care about picture quality.

yeah you wont do it yourself, unless youre very expereinced at modding or an electrical engineer...
if youre serious about nes gaming, like... very serious. save up the money and get a modded one from the getgo, ask on several different forums, maybe check ebay.

As I understand it, an AV Famicom is the best way to play. I think you need a pin adapter to play US games, but there may be more to it than that.

ah yes, not to be confused with the modded consoles. its the same quality, and you do need a converter. thats about it.
