Hi everyone. I'm new here. I have a copy of Frame Gride Pilot Style for Dreamcast I would like to rip, but have no idea how to go about doing so.
Short background: Armored Core 2 was originally going to be a Dreamcast game until they figured out there weren't enough buttons on the DC controller to do it justice, so it was reworked into a quasi-mideval fantasy robot game (think Escaflowne) instead of a sci-fi robot game with tweaked gameplay. It's also arena fights only, no missions like in Armored Core.
Pilot Style I was told was used as a demo shown to people at trade shows or whatever in Japan prior to the game's actual release. I was told Pilot Style was pretty complete, but I have no way of checking since I don't have a DC test system or whatever. It may only be slightly different than the final game (which I also have).
My assumption is that this version of the game was made near the end of the development cycle, but that the entire game is there and not just one level or whatever as you would find in what we would normally consider a demo. The title is very "engrish", but I think in this case they are using the word "pilot" to mean an early version ala a television pilot.
Hey, even the name Frame Gride itself is totally engrish. I was told it is not an L/R Japanese to English corruption problem. It's not supposed to be Flame Glide or Frame Glide or anything. It's just Japan using English-sounding words to seem cool even though "gride" is not a word at all.
I don't want to divulge where this came from other than to say the obvious, Japan, and definitely do not want to mail this off to someone I don't know. If it can be ripped with a standard DVD drive on a computer or a regular DC or something that would be fantastic and I'm totally interested in learning, but I am a newbie at this.
I'm not interested in mailing this to someone I don't know where I will never see it again, but if someone local has the means to rip it, I'm cool with taking it to their place and watching them do it or whatever or sending a friend to watch it for me. How does this work?
The front cover says "NOT FOR SALE" in English and also apparently Japanese saying the same. It has a nice little printed insert, but the jewel case does not have an insert for the back part, and the game itself is on a Katana Giga Byte Disc Recordable with SEGA CONFIDENTIAL HKT-06 and other standard Sega stuff printed on it. Hand written with a sharpie or something is "FG", version 1.1, and then a date and time it was burned. I wonder if version 1.1 means 1.1 of Frame Gride or 1.1 of Pilot Style? No clue.
This may only be interesting to Armored Core fanatics or Dreamcast fetishists, but I'm still interested.
Attached are scans of the cover and back of the insert. The inside is just a controller diagram, which is pretty dull, especially when all in Japanese so I didn't bother to include it.
