Some walmarts and Kmarts are selling elites. I just picked mine up its great. Go check it out!
Don't get your hopes up tho, we have some at my store and we're unable to sell them for some reason. A "This item cannot be sold!" prompt comes up when we try to ring them up, so we have to tell people we have none when they ask.

What's the price that these are going to sale for? I want one just to play Dead Rising on.

Much like the DS Lite and other hardware upgrades, it has a street date (1/29 in this case) but many stores such as Wal-Mart and Target that do not specialize in electronics have employees that start selling the item immediately.

Yeah most stores are instructed not to sell them until April 29th. I think a local Best Buy here has 2 of them.

I think it's been confirmed multiple times that these Elite systems do not have a new 65nm architecture. The processor will produce the same amount of heat (and the fan / drive the same amount of noise) as any other current Xbox 360. There may be some heat reductions due to improvements in power efficiency around the motherboard, but 65nm is still a ways down the line and will be rolled out in both versions of the 360, not just the Elite.

Hey all i said was that the ELITE had the chips I never said other boxes didn't. Thanks for the input though always appreciated!

GM80 is right - they did make a few fixes to the mobo. The even epoxied the chips so they won't come loose.
But still no 65nm chips, yet. Still have no idea what the holdup is...

I have had my elite running for a while now and i must say it does run much better than the original premium. It runs with barely any heat being pumped out of it. The new box Def. has had essential modifications done. With the all new epoxy and different type of solder I think the 3 red lights are a thing of the past on a count of thats what caused them in the first place.

The local Walmart already put out their black wireless controllers and black play and charge kits. I guess they have the systems in the back but can't put them out.

I'm about to hit up Best Buy. If they have the black controllers out, I'm buying one (I won't have money for the Eliete until Friday... Damn bills! ;) )
I'm really over all these glossy white systems and controllers. They get dirty too quickly.

I just got the 120GB HD today, it's pretty solid. Actually comes with free themes, demos (Lego Star Wars, Lost Planet), gamer pictures, and videos (Forza 2, Halo 3) for free. Including "Hexdic HD" full game for XLA for free. (About 15GB of stuff)
Comes with the transfer cable and the DVD Disc to launch the transfer program.
Only thing that was odd, is it takes roughly between 18 to 36 minutes to transfer the data from the 20GB to the 120GB...lucky for me, it just took 18 minutes since I was only at 9GB left of freespace.
Nice part, is once it's done with the transfer, it completely re-formats the 20GB for you to put up or sell it :)

My 360 is kinda scuffed from dropping a sharpie on it with the top off.

So no problems with XBLA games, gamertags, or demo's? I'm getting mine Friday. I still think I'm gonna keep my current one.

How do you transfer data from one hard drive to another? This has never been clarified...just rumors of some "transfer cable". It's been confirmed that the Elite does not come with this magic cable...so how is it done? Still curious.

So what's the transfer hardware like? Does it come with a little USB cradle for your second drive, or a USB-SATA cable, or what? Wonder if it will be hackable to use for accessing the 360 drive from a PC like the Datel XSATA device.

Lemme take a pic of this cable and how it's done
1st, attach this USB to the back of the system, not the front
2nd, attach the new 120GB to the end of the USB cable's adapter
3rd, turn on the 360 and place in the disc
4th follow the directions at the command prompt, also make sure the new HD drive is sitting safely while you wait for it to finish transferring

thats pretty cool. But if you do by an elite like I did you dont need all of that stuff. all you gotta do is recover your GT on your new HDD and re download everything all over again because xbox live saves what games and such you download of the marketplace so you can re download it if ever deleted by accident. So if you buy an elite don't by this data transfer cable. Its a waist just re download it. Still very cool that it comes with a new hdd

If you want to keep your saves for games you've played, you DO need all that stuff. It seems to be quicker with the cable, anyway.
I'm sure it's a non-issue now, but I've seen all of the black accessories out at Best Buy, including the new controller+play&charge bundle.

Is this confirmed? The 65ns chip that is. What i've heard the hardware inside is exactly the same as the old 360s.
I also read that some guy got the ring of death only 4 days after purchace of the elite model. True or not, i dont know. Read for yourself here:

Might be true, but hopefully the elite model got much less problems :)

There is literally like 15 things that the 3 red li ghts means. its a very general term called "hardware failure" this can be many things other than the processors or over heating. Most likely a rumor. mine has ran for 48 hours straight just downloading stuff with no problems. I think were going to be in the clear with the elite!!

I've had my 360 since launch and I regularly leave it on for days at a time (falling asleep while watching movies). I've never had one issue with it.
It's way too early to say the elite has fixed anything other than the lack of HDMI and racial profiling.
And no, the Elite does NOT have the 65nm core. It takes about a quarter second to see the die size is the same as it was before, thus no smaller process.

Congrats on getting your system one week early. I'm gonna check out wally world tomorrow. I'm going to check out my work as well to see if we have any yet.

Recent Ebay sell was 5,100 which is crazy.
I picked up the new 120GB drive today. As mentioned by others, the transfer process was exceptionally well done. Yes, it even moves locked saves (thank you Team Ninja).
In case you're wondering, there's no preloaded content on the new drive that's worth saving. I hooked it up first, ready to save anything interesting to a Memory Unit. No unique Themes or Gamer Pictures, as far as I could tell, and the rest was demos and advertisements.
Now I'll just wait for someone to confirm that the included USB-to-HD cable works with some of the PC transfer software that's available ;)

The memory card doesn't allow the transfer of "Locked' games unfortunately.
I'm not sure which ones are and aren't but it would suck to have that problem.

I am on my 4th 360 console and I would like a more reliable solution as you would. and "Moeeed" is my gamertag on Xbox Live and PSN. Also as far as owning an Elite I already own a PS3 since Nov 17.. no problems here.. I bought 3 year warrantly plan as soon as I got the last replacement console from MS back in October. When there is a confirmation that MS has throughly revised the 360 hardware and when the CPU is updated I will get a black 360!!!

Question for you Elite owners.
Does it have the abilty to output sound independent of the HDMI cable while using HDMI ? So far the PS3 cant as far as I know and I was wondering if MS made this mistake aswell. I hope not as it would make using it a waste of time for us projector owners.

The Elite includes a dongle that connects to the normal A/V output port to give you both optical audio and stereo analog audio outputs alongside HDMI.

I Also have a ps3 and it DOES allow you to have an independent audio source. If you use the old ps2 AV cable u can select audio to run through that. And xbox 360 has an adapter for independent audio sources.
