View Full Version : Does my ps2 need to be slain?

it plays ALL ps2 games and also plays the blue sided disks, but absolutely will not play ps1 or DVD's. is it a quick fix or should i just get a slim PS2? its a 2001 one model, so its been around for a while.

i have an old ver. 4 ps2 that got the wonderful "READ DISK ERROR" alot...although it gave me that on everything. if i kept takeing the game out and reinserting it eventually would read it. i cleaned it with a lens cleaner thing and it runs alot better now though sometimes i have to insert a game a few times still before it will read it. you could try useing one of those cleaner discs first and see how that goes.
although the fact its being selective about what it won't play may lead one to beleive its a problem deeper then a dirty lens.

I never seen on play ps2 dvd and not dvds by itself. I allways thought it was one the other. Blue and ps1 or dvd.

Just get the new slim version there cheap now (if you can get the silver one)

When I worked at EB and tested traded-in PS2's on a regular basis, we had to test all four formats - PS1 games, blue-back PS2 games, silver-back PS2 games, and DVDs (never tested CD's tho). Had recorded instances of nearly every combination of DRE's =/

Now-a-days I believe the standard is simple silver and blue backing, but it can change from location to location. This is in response to the color backing testing for the ps2.

Just get a slim. I just purchased a silver slim at Best Buy (they had tons in stock, even in stock on the website), and I have to say that the unit kicks ass. It is so small and so sleek....I am completely in love with it.
