I've heard many people saying that you can "upgrade" the Tekken 5 hori stick with like "sanwa" parts? How do I go about doing this? Also, can you change out the buttons with real arcade buttons?

I haven't bothered to do that w/ my Tekken stick (no point for me since I built a custom stick) but I've seen others do that as well. Sanwa parts will mount in a very shallow case (buttons included) as they're made for those little Japanese fiberglass cabinets.

It would only be a matter of opening the stick, removing the old parts (nuts/bolts for the stick, the buttons have plastic nuts as well which you could get a special 'wrench' for but it isn't required), and putting in the new ones... but I seriously doubt Namco (or Hori, or whoever made the stick) put quick-disconnects on the wiring (if they did it would probably be a first) so you'd be stuck doing a lot of de-soldering/soldering (or you could cut the existing wires and crimp a quick-disconnect on every wire).

Not an overly complicated project for a beginner, but if you don't at least know how to solder properly and have good equipment I wouldn't recommend it. If you still want to do it I seem to recall yaton6552(?) from eBay (big Neo-Geo cart reseller) sells stick/button kits on his website for a fair price.

There aren't any wires. The buttons for the Tekken stick are soldered right to the board, like a set of columns holding up a ceiling. I removed the buttons to put on a new overlay (I don't like the Tekken picture) and as long a the new buttons have the same pin profile it should work. Or, you could just add wires and solder them to the pinholes on the board.

Either way removing the board from the buttons is kind of tricky, I don't reccomend it if you aren't experienced at soldering.
